UCLA is in the top 20 in preseason polls. Not sure where you are getting your info. And I would not compare what these players did to what Sandusky and the university did.

Its funny USC and Arizona, the two teams ranked ahead of UCLA in the pac-12 are two of the 6 teams under FBI investigation for their part in the recruiting scandal. Both had coached arrested and their indictments were handed down a couple days ago. More than likely their head coaches will have a similar fate and whatever they do this year will likely have to be vacated and a potential death penalty and years of probation await those two teams. With USC this is a pattern that has enveloped both their football and basketball programs for more than a decade. Last time USC was caught was with Tim Floyd as coach, also the last time their basketball team was any good. They seem to not learn from the past.

But the three UCLA players were released from custody yesterday which apparently almost never happens so someone pulled some strings as I expected:

Just getting out of detention, though, is extremely rare and bodes well for the players, according to Chinese lawyers and legal analysts who spoke to Yahoo Sports.
The development, they say, suggests that efforts by the United States government, and more specifically the local consulate and UCLA itself, have been effective in gaining very favorable treatment for the players.

“It is a very good sign,” said Teng Biao, visiting scholar at the U.S.-Asia Law Institute at New York University. “I feel that they won’t be jailed again.”

They were is the operative word. UCLA doesn't count conference championships or final four appearances and with top players going one year and to the NBA this season is gone

Nothing will come of it- they were almost immediately released on bail. That doesn't happen in China, so we know they will get "most favored thief" status.

The fact that they were released and confined to the hotel may paint a different outcome..I don't know. We shall see.

Bringing these teams over to play in China is a PR thing for China imprisoning US college kids is not good PR.
only if the kids are in fact innocent, if they are guilty then lock the little buggers up, drop them from the team, and expel them from the university.

There is no bail in china. They were released to house arrest. But if they were going to be charged they would still be in custody.

Every top tier school has the same problem. Only the mid majors keep their players 4 years now. UCLA had a top 5 recruiting class. I would assume the players busted in china will have to sit out a few games. Like Winston did at Florida St.

UCLA does not display banners for anything less than a championship. If Arizona did that they would have just one banner hanging, USC would have nothing hanging up.

If UCLA reaches the sweet 16 or above its good for recruiting. To say the season means nothing without a championship is not true.

Its way too early to predict who will be in the final four etc. If the NCAA comes down on the cheating teams Arizona, USC, Louisville, Miami etc might be banned from this post season. We are in uncharted territory with the FBI taking the lead. I don't think the FBI cares whether or not they mess up the season. The assistants might be singing to save themselves and the Addias / Nike reps might point to more schools. Who is left in the mix come march madness is really hard to say now.
