As I understand it, the folks at the State department were WAITING on January 21 to orient the new appointees from the new administration (and would resign after the new people came in) but no one ever showed up. That's right - no one was appointed. They were slow to quit because they knew they would be leaving jobs uncovered, that the US would not be represented in routine discussions with other countries, that Americans traveling abroad would have fewer services, etc. But they ARE quitting, many retiring. The ones we are losing are the ones with seniority and experience. Too bad that those that replace them (if the administration ever does) will be without experience and without experienced people to orient and train them. Our standing in the world shrinks further.

If you get into that posted article in Newsweek, you see that Trump says that none of those State Department people are needed. He says that he's the only one that counts, because all the decisions will be his. He has previously informed us that he knows more about the military, than all the generals. Now, he knows more about all the diplomatic functions of the country, than the career diplomats do. What a super guy he is, making all his wonderful, beautiful and really great talents available like that. Will he be taking over the Space Program next, with his superior knowledge of technology? If Dr. Seuss was still alive, he couldn't dream up a character that was as crazy or absurd as Trump.

Hate is a term over-used by Trump supporters, it shows up all the time here. I think it may be projecting.

Trump is negative. He is entirely negative. He draws negative people to himself, like moths to a flame. He and his supporters simply see his shortcomings reflected back to them.

He brings malfeasance along with him like flies to an outhouse. Nothing that a judicious mop and a lot of bleach couldn't take care of ...

Excellent article, originally published in late March of this year - since then, more information has emerged to heighten the concerns voiced in it. It's substantial and not short, so may go right over the heads of many of the more short-attention-spanned Trump supporters. But it's required reading for the rest of us.

Thanks for sharing this. And thank God for the Mueller investigation.

As a retired civil service employee, I assure you any department could be cut 60% without impacting core function Not filling openings is the only easy way to shrink federal agencies.

Just a few sources a mix of left and right wing. Our State Department is anything but a role model to follow.
