When I was self employed in the late 90s I was paying $750/month, seems like with inflation alone $800 is not bad.
One of the costs of having a business. Now I have a job, and a good employer plan for $32/ month. For the company the cost is almost $2,000. That’s for me only, my wife has her own through her employer. Adding either of us to the other’s plan is costly, meant to discourage double coverage.
What you call waste, millions call profits and/or a job. That is the central problem here.
No one steps back and calculates the lost productivity from millions with PTSD....taking entire generations of our children and hindering their chances (assuming they survived). But even that makes money.

The #1 reason medical care and the security state are so expensive is the gravy train. The "reward" is given when more people are sick and suffer and when more conflicts are underway. It's classic Pavol - association and reward and conditioning.
We like to think we are a free thinking people - but we are anything but. We've been fat and lazy for so long we wouldn't know reason if it banged us upon our collective heads.
I call it a waste when 1000's of our people died over lies and oil.
That sucks but considering it went up that small, it could be far worse. That 956 could easily be 1000-1200 the way the market uncertainty is with the Obamacare exchanges.

And you do realize that not everyone can work right? I mean there's disability, stay-at-home parents, family caretaking, structural unemployment, full employment, etc.

Many people who use food stamps work. They do jobs we need. The waitress that lost her better job because it was moved overseas still has to feed her three kids.
In part, food stamps are the cost of us allowing companies send jobs offshore to benefit wall street.
