Sooo... People who want to own guns, should need insurance, if they are planning on walking on public grounds.
What danger?

My gun gets stolen is my problem, not yours.

Hmmm not a white guy

Not an AR-15

Banning the 15 will do what again?

Did you all forget?
Not to mention, the AR-15 is just one of many semi-automatic rifles. It just happens to be scary looking.

Of course it's dumb - if traffic laws really worked, nobody would die when people run red lights or are drunk.

Same fail "logic" from the far-right. No law is perfect, but it is laughably absurd to pretend "gun control laws don't work," just as it would be absurd to pretend "traffic laws don't work" just because crooks and idiots violate both of them. I don't see any (sane) people demanding we get rid of traffic laws - or much of any other laws - but we're to pretend that guns are "special" and everyone should be allowed to own and wield a pile of them, no matter how crooked, unstable, or irresponsibly insane they are. There is no excuse for such illogical reasoning.

For people who support gun rights, it doesn't matter what you say about your rights to gun ownership, or about who arming the "good guys" will make society safer etc. the reality is, if the U.S. doesn't have a national ban on all gun ownership, gun violence in the U.S. will not change, and mass shooting and school shootings will continue.

I know people will respond by saying the "bad guys" will not give up their guns, and that's why the "good guys" need guns… but the long tern strategy is for the "bad guys" guns to get confiscated, and not let them replenish their supply.

This is the ONLY way to make a significant dent in U.S. gun violence. Regardless of your politics, how responsible of a gun owner you think you are, your belief in gun rights etc. No other solution will make a difference.
My bird hunting shotguns and my hunting rifles harm no one in the safe or afield.

When I go waking above my house, I like carrying my handgun for big kitty protection.

Your preposal is a non-starter.

Actually, you've just accurately described why laws prevent nothing, and only serve as a guideline for punishment after the fact. All we have to do is look at what happens in Chicago to see that gun control laws don't work.
