He did, initially. The state of Calif. did away with the death penalty and his sentence was then converted to life in prison.

His death will initiate a huge look back at his crimes... just more attention to the murderer...and renewed pain for so many families.

Actually the Supreme Court ruled the death penalty, as then administered, unconstitutional nationwide.

This was not a California thing.
