Alabama doesn't pay or receive Federal Government taxes. Citizens living in Alabama pay taxes and receive benefits as do citizens that live in Cali.

Citizens in Alabama that make the same as someone in Cali shouldn't pay more in FIT.

Issa's political future is greatly endangered, which is why he's been moderating this term. Rohrabacher is being targeted by the Dems and his seat is not as much of a sure thing as it has been, although I doubt that affected how he voted on the bill.

OTOH the odds of McClintock's seat being won by a Dem are like the odds of Maxine Waters' seat being won by a Repub.

CA raises taxes constantly from local to state government and people like yourself don't say boo about it because it's Democrats doing it with their endless need to suck every penny they possibly can out of the taxpayer and consumer especially the lower income people. Then the money is spent of things the vast majority of people in the state can't and won't use like bicycle lanes and the fast train to no where. Go ahead and ask Jerry Brown, Maxine Waters, Barbara Boxer or Nancy Pelosi to invite you on their yachts or mansions and see where that gets you. Maybe if you ask them politely, they'll buy you a used bike so you can ride around So Cal in one of the new bike lanes they're so proud of. Put on some extra sun screen and enjoy yourself.

The citizens of Alabama are certainly receiving much more than they are paying in Federal income taxes.

Again, for every dollar they pay in taxes their state receives about three dollars in Federal subsidies. The citizens of Alabama are beneficiaries of that extra money. If they didn't receive an extra two dollars from the Federal government they would likely have to pay higher taxes to make up the difference.

The state has very limited power to raise local taxes. The local voters have to approve those taxes. I'm with you on the bike lanes, but the cost involved is that of painting stripes on the road. It costs almost nothing. I'm OK with the train, as are most people in California. Most of the bitching you hear about the train comes from outside the state. Aside from these two issues, if you look at a breakdown of what California spends money on and compare it to other states, on a percentage basis, California's allocations are very similar to other states. The biggest thing that stands out is pensions. However, there are about ten states where this category is a lot higher than it should be. Transportation spending is lower than average (as a percentage of the budget), as is the welfare spending here that that rest of the country concerns themselves with.

It doesn't quite fall into the same category, but I can see your point. For those of us who lived here in the early 2000s, remember the recall of former Governor Gray Davis recall and incoming Schwarzenegger, who rolled back vehicle licensing fees. The way our money is spent is really appalling.

I seriously doubt those numbers. Even if true, high income states residents should be paying more and subsidizing the poorer states just as high income earners subsidize low income workers when it comes to taxes, that's how it works.
