The Supreme Court has supported the expansion of that clause for over 100 years.

200 years ago it meant one thing. Today, it's entirely different.

And "provide for the common defense" could mean scrapping the Pentagon and giving every citizen a .22 LR and a box of ammo.

If you want to be ignorant and absurd, then you are certainly welcome to do so, but don't expect society to adopt and indulge that foolishness.

Maybe you can benefit from looking up the word "PUBLIC".... !!!! (("Public" - definition: of, relating to, or affecting a population or a community as a whole.))

and get over thinking in self centered terms...!!!!

200 yrs ago... it meant the very same thing it means today.. it only applies to an increased population with a broader element of diversity !!! the same "diversity" that "some" tried to deny respect unto as being members of society as American's. It might be beneficial to think deeper...

So, 100 years ago we didn't have regulatory governance?

We are way beyond regulatory governance. We are at regulatory strangulation.

And why do you assume free is wild? Free is free and it doesn't have to be wild.

And yes, we should be able to run free every way we want and anytime we want (as long as it's not harming others). That's freedom and it's wonderful. Too bad you and Obama want to deny us the right to be free and determine how we will live our lives.

Maybe you can benefit from looking up the word "freedom" and get over thinking in god like terms so that you and your government can control how others live their lives.

We're too married to our cars and the freedom and independence they bring to care about high speed rail.
If you can get me from New England to Florida in eight hours, I would gladly keep a car at each address.

I've been a victim of our rail system a couple of times in my life. Seattles Sounder too. I also don't think our society is set up for it either. We're too spread out and we don't have the population density the Chinese have. Russias rail system is great too but they never went the direction we did either.

Only to one who is without the educational and humanitarian awareness to understand what is a civil and civic society, within a Governed System with Regulatory Management.

My response was to someone who'd said "Actually, "promote the general welfare" means whatever politicians want it to mean. It could also include free country club memberships and Porsche sports cars for everybody if that's what politicians decide."

And BTW, Where does the Constitution make that distinction between civil and civic?

Freedom is first and foremost about "RESPONSIBILITY" and it takes Responsibility to Abide by the Governance System in a Governed Society and the Responsibility to Respect the Regulatory Governance it established, and within that framework, then "responsibility give one the freedom to function within the governed and regulated system.

You just keep insisting on pursuing some barbaric wild man manner of living, and mankind in general moved on from that when Nations were established with Governed systems Centuries Ago !!!!. Maybe you are not properly tempered with awareness and knowledge of what is a civil society, and civic environment and how to live in a governed system that has regulatory management... Thus so, one who is as such, can be a danger to the general civil and civic society and the members within it. And lately we've seen far too much of what that produces from people mass killing people at entertainment events, in churches and the wide spread of mayhem that seems to be increasing by those types who are not prepared and equipped to live in a civil and civic society.

C,mon Frank! The Auto train is Amtrak and it works pretty well and you even get the right car back in Lorton VA and Sanford FL.. If it loaded up in South Jersey, I could make it by the 2:30PM cut off.
