pple’s diversity chief is stepping down after only six months on the job — after causing an outcry by saying that being a minority or a woman are not the only criteria for diversity, according to reports.

Denise Young Smith, who was named vice president of diversity and inclusion in May, made controversial comments last month during a One Young World Summit in Bogotá, Colombia.

“There can be 12 white, blue-eyed, blond men in a room and they’re going to be diverse too because they’re going to bring a different life experience and life perspective to the conversation,” the inaugural diversity chief said.

“Diversity is the human experience,” she said, according to Quartz. “I get a little bit frustrated when diversity or the term diversity is tagged to the people of color, or the women, or the LGBT.”

Her comments appeared to defend Apple’s overwhelmingly white and male leadership at a time when the company’s makeup is markedly uneven.

The 20-year Apple veteran, who previously served as the company’s head of worldwide human resources, later apologized for her remarks, telling the staff that they “were not representative of how I think about diversity or how Apple sees it.”

“For that, I’m sorry,” she said in an email. “More importantly, I want to assure you Apple’s view and our dedication to diversity has not changed.”

The equal outcome crowd are just looking for a free ride.

Equal opportunity is fine and should be required, but that's it. If you don't qualify for a position without some sort of diversity handout, then you don't deserve the job in the first place.

It's a racist & sexist policy.

So... this black woman was hired by Apple to be a token, promoting a worldview that is bogus and policies that are evil. But on at least one occasion she delivered thoughtful remarks on meaningful, non-racist, non-sexist diversity that can actually benefit companies. For this she was forced to apologize and resign.

If your job is to enforce Political Correctness slogans, you've got to stick with the PC lies, the truth is very unwelcome and will get you fired.

On another front, Apple is slipping without Jobs, they no longer are setting the curve or even meeting the quality of some of their competitors...sad.

What she said is completely accurate, there is various forms of diversity. Not all white people are the same all over the U.S. there are lots of different subcultures.

Do they hire different people from all over the country? I think it's sad she backed down she should have stood up for what she said.

Apple and Google discriminate again people constantly. Just because they hire a few black people and a few women to make it look good, doesn't mean crap.

her 7-figure severance package for either:

1) deviating from being a diversity mouth piece

or

2) being told to make company statements and getting thrown under the bus for it.

Likely kept her from making more of a scene.

They probably decided that being a black woman wasn't "diverse" enough anymore. This was a convenient time to get rid of her to make way for a formerly female, transgender, muslim who's a mix of enough races to be ambiguous, but with sufficiently dark skin.
