Without a doubt the greatest tragedy to befall America is the loss of the free press.

Campaign finance reform. You would think that would be a bipartisan issue.

The summary of Lawrence Lessig's book "REPUBLIC, LOST How Money Corrupts Congress-and a Plan to stop it, gives a nice overview of the problem:

Republic, Lost: How Money Corrupts Congress—and a Plan to Stop It

Quote:
In an era when special interests funnel huge amounts of money into our government—driven by shifts in campaign-finance rules and brought to new levels by the Supreme Court in Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission—trust in our government has reached an all-time low. More than ever before, Americans believe that money buys results in Congress, and that business interests wield control over our legislature.

Trump gives the media plenty of ammo but their never ending hammering of him is putting many on edge and dividing the country.

The media needs to be unbiased and go back to reporting the facts so we can make up our own minds on a topic.
Rubbish.

FOX owns a huge number of local stations and controls the news on all those stations. spectrum own a whole bunch too and control the news on those stations.

FOX and SPECTRUM are RIGHT WING and reach deep across the entire nation. PAI is currently rewriting broadcast rules to allow Spectrum to exceed the existing limits.
Those limits were put in place to avoid any one group having TOO MUCH POWER. yet Pai (head of FCC) is destroying that rule to benefit right wing propaganda!

and of course FOX NEWS has 50% of cable news viewers. the rest is split between other stations.
Murdoch controls a vast media empire and coordinates it to great effect.

the right has hundred of radio stations and a massive online presence. and most americans get their news online.

Cape Cod Todd, you have clearly fallen for right wing propaganda, i suggest you take some time to learn who owns the local stations that you call "MSM", i suggest you learn about Pai's destruction of our FCC. I suggest you stop and think about where you get your news and where others get theirs. Remember FOX NEWS has dominated the 24 hour news cycle for almost 2 decades, their biggest competition is coming from the RIGHT!! not the left as you might think. Spectrum is coming after Fox hard, they are hiring Trump people like epstein and gorka to head up their propaganda department. Spectrum is forcing locals to carry content the station managers do not want to carry. extremist right wing propaganda inserted directly into local evening news programming.

cap cod, i am left wondering why you would think the MSM is liberal controlled when so much of it is owned by the right wing.?

The issue with North Korea is quite bad and very complicated.

I am not a warmonger. But this situation, NK getting nukes and a reliable delivery-system is
troubling.....possibly the only solution would be a military one. Then you have China, what do they want to happen in this situation, what a mess.

The Blue team has cooties. The Red team eats their own boogers.

YES --that was implied but should be noted.

Crime is low. Unemployment is low. The economy is growing. Our citizens are safe from external threats of violence. We are not at war. Citizens living in America now enjoy the best lifestyle of any previous generation.

I don' see any immediate "challenge" to the US.

I see many possible longer term issues facing the US, however, but that isn't the topic.

Hmm. Right now I would settle for getting Hillary to shut her yapper and go back into the woods where she belongs.
