Trump had no business intervening on their behalf. It was pure grandstanding
And, if President Trump hadn't intervened and used his influence to get those kids out, he would have been the bad guy, wouldn't he? Trump haters are never satisfied.
How is getting three thieves off the hook a good deed? What if these 3 criminals stole something of value from you or one of your loved ones? You would be singing a different tune. They committed a CRIME. These were not children and knew if they got caught they would have to pay. Is Trump now going to get all young men freed from prison time who are caught shoplifting? Why are these three special? Was Trump trying to prove he isn't a racist?
And, if he wouldn't have intervened, you would have called him a racist, wouldn't you?
If Trump had done nothing, someone else would have attempted to help them. Former presidents, governors, senators and reps have all worked with foreign governments to release Americans.
China allowed Trump to act like a big man because they want things from him (or maybe to thank him and Ivanka for providing so much Chinese employment) and they know they can win his favor through his massive ego--it really was no skin off of their nose.
And obviously Trump's motive was ego and some adulation. Poor boy didn't get enough and he's having a tantrum. Sad!
Also, no. It's your tough-skinned macho businessman who takes to Twitter when his fee-fees are hurt. He did his job and when the expected adulation didn't arrive, not only did he get all sorts of pouty, he got pouty in public. 13-year-olds who are ejected from the cool kids' lunch table have an excuse for airing their feelings on Twitter. The President of the United States does not.
Just admit you elected a spoiled whiny brat. You'll feel better.

Done nothing - -you mean left the boys there. Meh -- I'm not sure I would care -- honestly. I believe in consequences and if the consequences had been whatever hell the Chinese had waiting for them -- that's on them.

When Trump bailed out these boys many of you all of a sudden felt so much compassion for these young men and so glad Trump came to their rescue. What a hero.
Then we find out it was all a political hoax -- Trump doesn't care a hoot about these guys just what we think and say about his actions.

Remember if Trump left them in jail he is a racist :-) And didn't do anything. But if he does something normally you would think people who say thank you and move on. Oh no cant do that can we.
Trump is just miffed two of the fathers of these kids are acting like complete jackasses and showing zero class and self respect.
So he's miffed. OK. He's the President of the United States and with that comes the occasional bout of miffedness, and - this is important - we have a right to expect that he keeps that under wraps.
