I'm in full favor of abolishing it altogether, Science and Technology should be left up to the private sector and not the government.

These will be the same individuals who run around next year saying Trump isnt responsible for deficit cuts, despite all of these shrunken departments which would have far lower budgets

They have made this forum almost unreadable. Every time they see some new drama on their Facebook ultra left news feed we get a new thread. It's a tragedy.

My mother in law has completely lost her mind with her Trump hate. She used to be a common sense woman who rarely talked politics. What has changed? We gave her an ipad and she reads Facebook.

I think if they'd keep their mouth shut, Trump might actually be a 1 term President.. the more they push this ridiculous hate for him though, the more sympathy hes gonna get and people will vote for him..

The very thing happened with Obama.. horrible President.. who easily won re-election due to hate..

how ironic considering the govt started the internet which you are using to post on this site. I suppose nuclear power would have been better off had we left it to Germany instead.

"Science and engineering under Obama has been weaponized and is nothing more than a political propaganda outlet.

Any views need to include pro and anti positions on all issues.

Are these the guys that told Obama to up the legal eagle kill for wind farms?

Same org that told Obama there were shovel ready jobs?

Same org that neutered NASA?

Science and Obama are two words that don't go together. Monumental demonstration of science was when Obama said if the blue pill costs less than the red pill, given for the same indication, then we must prescribe and pay for the blue pill.

Science guys sent 3,000 troops to Africa to combat ebola???????

"President Obama is ordering 3,000 US troops to the Ebola-afflicted region in Monrovia, Liberia. Seventeen treatments centers are set to be erected, housing around 100 beds apiece. The real question here is: "Why is the military being used?"

Lest we not forget the scientific effort to ban guns by the CDC....
"CDC Leaders Admit They Want to Ban Guns"

In the late ’80s and early ’90s, the CDC was openly biased in opposing gun rights. CDC official and research head Patrick O’Carroll stated in a 1989 issue of The Journal of the American Medical Association, “We’re going to systematically build a case that owning firearms causes deaths.” This sounds more like activist rhetoric than it does scientific research, as O’Carroll effectively set out with the goal of confirmation bias, saying “We will prove it,” and not the scientific objectiveness of asking “Does it?”

The provincialism displayed here is astounding. Trumpsters don't seem to understand that there is more to the world than what they can see outside their front door. IT's astounding that 33% of our nation is like this.
The internet has the potential to be something great, but its uses will still be controlled.

One example, Popular Mechanics says one of the new technologies to come out within the next 10 yrs is going to be ability to email or text tangible objects...Do you actually believe they will allow the general public to have technology like this? The potential for mis-use of this is very high, it would be a disaster for quite a few industries if people had this ability.

Another one is the invisibility cloak, I only bring it up because I saw a news piece on it, and they are getting close to have a working model, that truly does bend light and makes it invisible to the naked eye...again, would they ever allow the public to have a product like this? Think about all the potential for abuse or criminal applications, it would be a disaster for law enforcement and many other industries.

This same mentality applies to all new technology...what COULD it be used for and should the public have it.

Wrong.. the Pentagon envisioned ARPANET, but thats not what is used today for the internet, the current internet originated using technology created by Zerox, in order to share copiers, which originated an ethernet, while Vincent Cerf and Robert Kahn invented the use of TCP/IP protocol which is currently used as the backbone of our current internet.

Government did use IP's but they needed to get out of the way in order for the private sector to make it what we use today.

The government did not create the internet, no more than Al Gore invented it. It was created by a group of men at the Stanford Research Institute back in 1968 doing follow up research on Leonard Kleinrock paper titled "Information Flow in Large Communication Nets" back in 1961. The first wide area exchange was called Arpanet and not the internet. The military picked this up and through DARPA refined this idea into what we call the internet. This concept would have been developed regardless of the government intervention.
