Its a simple solution. Put the offending students in special schools for troubled youths. They have them, there's one in Morgantown Pa. The parents would have to pay for the tuition. If they couldn't pay the state could arrange to take their future yearly tax refund to at least cover some of it or garnish a small portion of their wages or welfare or SSI. And they could also arrange to take that students future tax refund check until the costs are paid. Ouch.
When they see money being taken away to control an out of control kid, they'll take education seriously. And that's the reason why most failing students fail.... the parents don't care about their kids. They don't discipline them, they don't put emphasis on them getting educated, they don't care.

Lavar Ball might be insane, but to call him a bad parent is ridiculous. He made his kids successful before they even left high school, I haven't seen any parent do that before who wasn't loaded beforehand.

No one's disputing that they chose mates poorly, but that doesn't absolve the father for being a deadbeat.

At least the mother is taking responsibility by raising the kid on her own, whereas the man is usually off having fun without a care in the world.

(This is the typical situation - exceptions obviously exist)

My SIL is a single mother...she runs herself ragged taking care of her special needs son who the "father" abandoned while engaged, near the third trimester of her pregnancy (which he was initially excited about). He decided that he really wasn't about that "picket fence life", and abruptly abandoned her.

I feel bad for her. She does the best she can, but my husband's extended family.... man, can they be vultures at times. Constantly belittling her for being a single mother, saying she wasn't "worthy" of keeping a man. Yep...I've witnessed this exchange multiple times at their family get-togethers. If my husband wasn't so against "rocking the boat", I'd (verbally) tear them a new one.

Who are the parents? They need to be shamed in meetings with the school board. The children are obviously learning these behaviors at home, where they witness cussing, punching, spitting, etc. If a woman (or man) doesn't care enough about themselves to leave an abusive situation, at least care enough about the child to get them out of that home.

You're the only one blaming them here. Why would people blame the single mom?

It's not about taking them out fishing. It's about common sense and how 2 parents take care of kids better than one. What part of that don't you get?

Very much true here. A guy can split but the courts will make life hell forever if he doesn't submit. Where is the guy's choice on the kid's future if they split or don't marry? None and ....more none. Just pay up sucker.

There is no bargaining table for a guy in this situation.

Can't blame them, but I wonder what is the demographic makeup of Philly schools?

It's Harrisburg, not Philadelphia.

64% Black, 26% Hispanic, 3.5% White according to the school system's required filings. 23% are identified as SPED. 78% are receiving FARM.

I'd link it but it's a PDF file.
