I came across this article from the NYT about the Hatians who are about to lose their temporary protected status granted after the earthquake and couldn't help but think how much better these individuals would be situated if they had people looking out for them in high places. Like it or not, who you know and who you have looking after you matters, especially in politics. When the overwhelming majority of black voters and lawmakers belong to one political party, it's difficult to get things done when that party isn't in power (not that the Democrats are helping them much anyway when they are in power).
The negative effects of such rigid ideology are seen perhaps most profoundly for blacks (and Latinos, albeit to a somewhat lesser extent) living in the Deep South. Reliably Republican today, blacks sending exclusively Democrat leaders to the legislatures in these states ensure they they remain on the outside looking in, with their representatives seemingly permanently relegated to minority status (no pun intended). It would be one thing if there was a principled reason for such rigid support for one party, but as has been shown multiple times, black political thought aligns with GOP ideology on a number of issues, including illegal immigration, education reform, voter ID (despite what race hustlers in the dem party would have you think, most blacks and most Americans support voter ID laws (search my postings for the links or do your own basic research). It's just not very smart.
Until the GOP stops embracing White supremacists, this will never change.
Actions have consequences.
I expected that response, but it's disingenuous and shows ignorance of history and the reality on the ground. In reality, blacks were overwhelmingly voting Dem ever since the New Deal. This includes when the Dem party openly embraced segregation and Jim Crow, and all of the violence that came with that.
Most blacks are easily manipulated by the the Left and the liberal mainstream media that routinely uses racism as a weapon against conservative Republicans. Racism is a very touchy subject in the black community so they will fall for the Left’s tactics each time.
Funny how you guys talk about personal responsibility and bootstrap mentality but blame the problems of Blacks on the government
Which one is it cuz you can't have it both ways
The reality is that government has a role to play both directly (taxes, infrastructure, defense, foreign policy, etc.) and indirectly (lessening regulations that make it easier for Americans to open businesses, etc.) in society. No mainstream republican claims otherwise. That you suggest otherwise just shows more ignorance.
Yes they do have consequences. Ask the black community of those consequences of voting Democrat for so long.
