The Predator in Chiefs lawyers are following the Nixon plan when it comes down to what is going on. Setting up this legal defense fund to keep the remaining staff from making deals is pretty corrupting. Nixon lawyers tried it and in the end it did not work out well for him. As time goes on the good lawyers know when to fold.
Going to jail is a lot different then trying to pay some legal fees.
He may not be able to pay any legal bills, as it appears to be bribing or attempting to influence witnesses.
Trump has enough questionably ethical behavior surrounding him and his admin. He would really be pushing it by paying legal bills for those being questioned in an investigation into him and his campaign.

Fox News have apparently gotten their phone call already:
"Flynn who? He was never one of ours." And that surprises no one, the Trump camp has long since demonstrated that underlings will be cut loose if they're liabilities. This will of course make them more, not less, eager to make a deal with Mueller's team, but planning ahead was never a Trump thing, was it?
(Not even going to suggest that the Trump clan would harbor a concept like loyalty.)

Yeah, and the Trump Administration should have vetted Flynn a bit more than they did, if at all, since getting his security clearance renewed was a fairly routine process he went through in 2016, and he most likely did not not report his activities in Russia or Turkey since that time. It was the Trump Administration's job to vet everyone they hired.
I believe the Trump supporters may want to seriously consider adopting one theory: that Mr. Trump is so naive that people around him, wanting him in office, engaged in conspiracy with the Russians, with Mr. Trump being an innocent stooge.
This reminds me of the strategy during the Iran-Contra scandal, during the Reagan administration. And if memory serves, the strategy was successful.
Who knows. But it sounds as if he's not counting on a pardon from Trump any longer.
............maybe a pardon from Pence?
