Well, here we have arrived at another Black Friday. This is something that I just can't conceptualize. A mob of people (some of whom started on Thanksgiving evening, for added effect)....swarm the malls early in the morning, in some cases, beating down the doors and each other to grab the latest, greatest, and cheapest 'stuff' that is out there. One item on the shelf, and two people competing? Don't be afraid....do what you have to do, throw an elbow, kick an ankle, GET THAT STUFF for yourself. Making the day even dumber --- these days you can get the same stuff on line if you need it, for roughly the same cost, and without any of the hassle.
As a minimalist - I just don't get it. For most of my life I've only bought what I need, when I need it.
As a gen X guy, I have the millennial attitude of - I'd rather spend money on experiences - trips, a game, a good concert, than on more things.
My family and I will be far away from the malls today.
Who's with me in giving the finger to this nonsense?
I do not leave the house on Black Friday. Even in this small town, the local Wal-Mart is packed full of shoppers buying more stuff. No way would I venture into that scene--even if I needed groceries or something.
My husband and I are at the point in our lives where we really do not need or want anything. (Well, he would like a Corvette, but that probably won't happen anytime soon.) I am at the point where I am starting to downsize our possessions in anticipation of our final move to a smaller residence in the future.
Also, we like spending our money on experiences and travel rather than things. We give money to others in need and receive satisfaction from that.
It is certainly none of my business what other people do today. Indeed, it is good for the stores and the economy. Recall that 'black' Friday is called such because it used to be (and perhaps still is) the date that many traditional stores began to realize a profit for the year (going from red to black in the ledgers).
The biggest joke is the idiots fighting over TV's that were built with cheaper parts so that they can be sold cheaply. That "bargain" will die before the next Black Friday.
I'm not going to any stores. I'm staying home and making birdhouses for everyone for Christmas.
Anybody complains that they don't have any birds I'll be more than happy to give them the bird too.
