Not trying to stir the pot, I've yet to hear a decent answer about it. Personally, I'm on the fence about the issue since it seems each new data that comes out contradicts the last one.

Seems to be a problem for some people to realize nature might actually work this way and has trends and offsets. Mother nature follows different laws. Human models and al gore visions do not apply.

Well may that be true. Man is egocentric in his view of his place in the world. We may think ourselves as masters on this planet; but we are rapidly laying waste to the land and the sea on which we depend for life's subsistence. For when this goes, then, as surely as the earth turns, so shall we go also.
|
And so those who believe in global warming perpetuate the view that man is a master of the planet, that we are able to control the fate of the entire earth.

No, the opposite is true. The earth will survive; it is we that will not. We would do well to change our ways; for otherwise the earth will do just as well without us.

The reasoning behind cooling ocean temps could be very simple. If you have a bowl of warm tropical punch and you add a block of ice the mixture is going to cool as the ice melts. On the other hand the Gulf of Mexico has never been as warm as it is today. Last year I believe they said it reach 90 degrees F. The warm Gulf water was part of the intensification of hurricane Katrina.
The earth may be like driving a bus. If you don't keep your attention to what you're doing and the road conditions you might wind up with a wreck, out of gas, or just plain lost...god doesn't care.

Oh, so we'll kill ourselves...but in the end THE EARTH WILL SURVIVE; global warming or not? Then who cares?

Who cares? - I can’t believe that you don’t care. Indeed, I find it difficult to understand how anyone cannot be concerned about the environment. Is it not in our own self-interest to see that we do not pollute the air and water - the very elements upon which all life depends - and preserve the land and sea that provides for our existence? Can there be anything more important? And, what about the future? - Can we be so selfish as not to be concerned about the quality of life of our own children and grandchildren? What will be their inheritance? Will they see us as good stewards of that which we only hold in trust? - Or will they curse us for wasting their birthright? Can we be so short-sighted as not to foresee the consequences of our actions - or so callous as not to care? I hope not!

Well, your post indicated the human-centric thinking of man, I was pointing out that the "man-made global warming" continues your theory. BUT then you pointed out that the earth will still be here after us...thus contradicting yourself.
There are significantly more important issues that need to be resolved before "saving the planet" reaches the top of the list. The planet is fine. The fact that you don't feel anything is more important says a lot about you.

There's no contradiction there. The earth as we know it will be no longer. The Mojave Desert may extend to the Pacific Coast it's already very close. Baja California is desert from Gulf to Coast right now. Africa may be uninhabitable, too hot too dry. Evaporation and rain fall in other parts of the world may be so intense no car could stay on a hiway during a rain storm. Mega tornadoes and hurricanes, insects the size of birds, ants the size of small dogs due to the heat and their adaptability. Humans and mammals adapt much slower, it takes generations to make adaptive changes. Evolution anyone? You'll need it if you want your family to survive.
Then there's always the possibility with the shift in the size, shape and volume of the ice caps with increased global water allocation the earth could shift on it axis. This could take thousands of years or we could continue abusing OUR plant and it could take Hundreds. And unfortunately it's the naysayers who have this president's ear with commercial interests dominating over all.

Your reading of my posts is dyslexic. I said that the planet will survive global warming; but that we will not. Furthermore, this is not something that can be put on the back burner; we need to pay immediate attention to the problem, or the consequences will be visited upon us sooner than later.
On this issue, the rest of the world has told us: "Lead, follow, or get out of the way." Can we, a nation now so dependent on other nations (indeed the largest debtor nation), afford to thumb our nose at the rest of the world? I think not.

So your concern about global warming is that we will kill all of mankind? What a preposterous assumption about the power that humans wield.
Can we as a free and sovereign nation afford to be bullied by the rest of the world? NO! If we controlled our spending more we would not be such a debtor nation...and thusly we could not only thumb or nose at the rest of the world but also give them the finger.
