I think every American Indian, including those being honored, have extremely, and well deserved, issues with Jackson.
Those men had to notice and still accepted their honors with grace and dignity. Maybe now some can see this ability to act with class in contrast with Trump's antics and know why so many of us have a problem with our President's behavior. I am not overtly political. I am offended as an American. He is supposed to represent ALL of us.
Those men were from the Greatest Generation - the way they behaved gives a good reminder why they are called that.

Lots of oversensitivity going on in today's society. Stuff happened in history. Andrew Jackson was the President at one time, and Washington, and Jefferson had slaves. So if Trump were to honor a Black serviceman for whatever reason, and there was a picture of Washington, or Jefferson in the background, we should all wet our beds, wring our hands, and get all upset over it.
A lot of people just need to get a life, and stop getting offended by everything.
It was not unique and was supported when this occurred. Sure, in the view of a historian fallacy it looks absolutely terrible, however, we should not be committing such fallacies, and it should not overshadow the entire spectrum of such accomplishments of Jackson and the contributions to this country in which we have all enjoyed the fruits of.
I saw the thread about Trump bringing up Warren and calling her Pocahontas which wasn't really appropriate, but not that big of a deal.
However, I read there was a portrait of Andrew Jackson up when he was honoring the Code Talkers.
Talk about clueless on that. What a colossal fubar.
The MSM picked up on it immediately.
No worries--Trump gets credit for being the totally ignorant tool he is.
"...Andrew Jackson was called ‘Indian killer.’ Trump honored Navajos in front of his portrait...."
"..A lot of questions about the Native American White House event! Why did they pick the portrait of Andrew Jackson as the backdrop. Jackson was noted for his forced removal of Native Americans, Truth in History!"...
My thought exactly. Either there is a sub in for Pedro on his break or day off. OR--Saints be praised! The real Pedro actually has a real sensibility he's kept hidden under a bushel. Let's see if there are any more where that came from. Come on Pedro. Is there hope for you? Just a little glimmer of humanity makes us want more.

That's all well and good. Jackson did some great things for this country but the Trail of Tears wasn't one of them. The Supreme Court ruled Jackson couldn't move those Native Americans making them walk half way across the country but Jackson took his army and did it anyway. Unlike slavery which was legal, Jackson took it upon himself to do what he wanted to even after the Supreme Court ruled against him. Which fallacy regarding Jackson are you referring to? This is history. There's nothing for Jackson to be proud of regarding this issue.
