Angela Lansbury: attractive women 'must sometimes take the blame' for sexual harassment

Quote:
Women must accept some blame for sexual harassment and abuse because they “go out of their way to make themselves attractive” to men, Dame Angela Lansbury has said.

While other Hollywood actresses have condemned the stories that have surfaced since the Harvey Weinstein scandal broke, Dame Angela offered a strikingly different take.

“There are two sides to this coin. We have to own up to the fact that women, since time immemorial, have gone out of their way to make themselves attractive. And unfortunately it has backfired on us - and this is where we are today.
Ummm....Totally disagree here. A lot of older women think this. I have no idea why.

My mother in law thinks this as well.

I honestly wonder if this thought comes from a place where the older woman feels they are no longer attractive, and feel the need to take it out on the younger generation? There always seems to be some tinge of jealousy among the older women that say this.

No idea, just thinking out loud.

^^^ boy I'll bet there some stuff in her closet she doesn't want to talk about. That time in Hollywood, I think it was just expected.

Good for this younger generation to break this stuff open and get it to stop.

While I disagree (strongly) with Lansbury, her commentary does bring up an interesting point. For the most rabid of leftists, even looking or making a comment on a woman's beauty (by a man) could be described as "offensive"

Was she 14 there? Because by the time she was in her 20's she looked 50.

I had no idea she was still around. She was old when my parents were watching "Murder, She Wrote."

Honestly, I find it incredibly sad and ironic that an actress who wore her share of seductive outfits back in the day would blame any woman for being harassed because she tried too hard to be pretty.

She would have been about 20 there. She comments in her autobiography that although she looked mature for her age and was often cast as a vixen or the other woman, she was actually quite naive and innocent when she started out in Hollywood. For example her first husband was gay, but she had no clue until after she married him.

She isn't totally wrong guys. Surely you've all seen what some women do to themselves to get attention and what they are willing to do to get something they want. We aren't all that innocent.
