Turns out Warren is not alone in claiming ancestry she didnt have based upon family stories. In this case though the family story was a known lie (unlike Warrens) that was told specifically for their families financial benefit. (Warren does not appear to have benefited from her claim). In this case the grandfather was German,and claimed Swedish heritage in order for his customers to buy things from him.

Believe him? No, we just don't give a ****. This story is literally meaningless, as it does not matter where on this planet another American came from legal immigration-wise. Warren's, on the other hand, is not meaningless. She quite obviously made an attempt to appropriate a native and culturally-sensitive heritage for her benefit, of which she was successful. Harvard didn't use her statistic as a female Native American to defend its diversity record out of thin air. She claimed it. She benefited from it. Harvard believed her. How many times has that happened to you in your life.....someone writing an article and using a fake racial heritage to describe you? None, i'm quite sure. These things don't happen randomly and without substantiation, and to assert that it did is intellectually dishonest.
