And the rats are abandoning ship. Tillerson and Trump's relationship has become strained and Trump is planning on replacing him with the current CIA chief, Mike Pompeo, in the next few weeks. Pompeo has indicated he will accept the position.

Tillerson has not been doing very well in that position. Like POTUS, his lack of any relevant experience is obvious. Pompeo is a political sleaze who knows how the game is played.

I had rather high hopes for Mr. Tillerson. It did not help him that, at least on a few occasions, he would make some statement, and then be contradicted by Mr. Trump.

Say, does President Trump want an experienced person for Secretary of State?

Hillary Rodham Clinton is presently unemployed.

When top insiders start jumping ship, it's an ominous sign.

Can you cite another Secretary of State in the past century leaving early due to a conflict with the prez?

William Jennings Bryan resigns as U.S. secretary of state - Jun 09, 1915 - HISTORY.com

Me neither.

I am not a fan of Tillerson, and certainly not of Trump, but I think Tillerson was probably his best major appointment. As CEO of XOM, he had much relevant experience. Negotiations to ink multi-national Oil and Gas Deals would be very relevant. He has to work with multiple governments and private agencies to get things done. XOM has sites around the globe. Doing business in West Africa, Pacific Rim, Europe, Asia, Russia, North and South America. Dealing with custody transfer of commodity, building refineries, mineral rights, all kinds of things. I'd say he's qualified, whether I like him or not (I don't).

His demise, I believe, is mostly due to the constant undermining by his boss.

If you think the CEO of a global corp is working with govts and agencies to get things done... lol, they have employees & consultants for stuff like that. Usually lawyers

Tillerson was a disaster at State. The State Department is a shadow of its former self and is totally demoralized. The only reason certain people like myself initially supported Tillerson was because he seemed to temper the lunatic Trump and he as not Trump's poodle. I hope Pompeo keeps his independence and keeps Trump from doing anything insane. My fear is that Trump is searching for someone that has his warped view of the world and shares his delusions. That is the most disturbing scenario.

It's very alarming that rather than bring in someone who isn't currently working for him, Trump apparently only has about 10 people he can move around to different positions. If Pompeo goes to the State Department, who will be head of the CIA? Mnuchin? Mattis? Ivanka?

How long will the musical chairs go on?

Tillerson leaving is a rumor. It was reported by the NYTimes as information from an anonymous source and is now being reported as fact by multiple media sources.

He may well leave the White House, but, when did rumor become fact in honest reporting?
