That is so 1991ish. Like Trump, Judge Thomas isn't going anywhere. And he's been a thorn in the liberals side for decades.
I don't seriously think he's going to go anywhere, either. But there have been ongoing concerns about his dinner parties. I'm not just thinking of Anita Hill.
Men are being programmed in our society to accept the BS they are handed.
Was Matt Laurer REALLY forcing himself on a NONPARTICIPATING victim?
Or
Was this girl receiving flirtatious comments, flirting back possibly, and/or even leading him on?
Even if it was the latter, Matt Laurer is going to respond to the prior, because that's what is being force-fed to the masses. Most men do not act out without being persuaded.
Ultimately who knows, but if people are really that naive to believe the latter is not going on, then I would suggest they are naive beyond compare.
These are powerful men in our society. Let's not pretend they are not targets.
He gave a sex toy to an unsuspecting colleague and told her he couldn't wait to blank her up the arse with it. Seems like a predator to me.
I feel for his wife and kids. He's always been a creepy cheater
For the comedian I'm thinking it's Alec Baldwin which would be quite ironic.
I think it is a little amazing in who has not been called out. I guess that behavior is acceptable and expected in some groups. It goes with the territory and allegations bounce off. There seems now to almost be a focus on a group of people. Does that mean others in journalism, politics or entertainment are pure as the driven snow? We have 535 members of Congress but only a few singled out....something smells funny about all of this. Almost a McCarthyism stench. BTW...What's Clarence Thomas been up to since last we checked?
I would say more neurotic than classy. I could see him doing a whole routine on how he wanted to grope a woman with "the reach" and how, at the last second he'd pull back his hand and pretend he was eating popcorn.
And then George would scream, "You gotta COMMIT, Jerry!"
Given that this particular moral panic is structured largely around an identity feminist narrative, it will likely continue for a while to consist of male-on-female accusations. The male-male accusations are being downplayed in comparison, and the recent female-on male accusation (against Mariah Carey) has been almost completely ignored.
Moral panics do tend to have very long tentacles. I suspect that we will eventually move on to female-on female accusations, and perhaps a couple of female-on male claims will find their way into the discourse before the panic subsides. As to who's next, I wouldn't begin to venture a guess. These things always take on an unpredictable nature once they become entrenched.
I’m not suggesting that many of these accusations aren’t legitimate. It’s just that as they become diluted with claims that are far less solid, the distinctions become increasingly blurred. In the end, this is about power. People who are in positions of power will often abuse that power. More men than women are in those positions of power. Ultimately, the legitimate claims involve individual abuses of power—not culturally-derived abuses of masculinity or maleness.
Sadly, as this stuff becomes more and more profitable for the corporate media; we continue to ignore things like genocide in Yemen, the military-industrial complex, poison water in American cities, the mass incarceration of Black men, and the gutting of our Fourth Amendment rights—but hey!, let’s stick to what’s important: some guy touched the butt of a woman through her jeans nineteen years ago.
