House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) on Wednesday said House Republicans will aim to cut spending on Medicare, Medicaid and welfare programs next year as a way to trim the federal deficit.

“We’re going to have to get back next year at entitlement reform, which is how you tackle the debt and the deficit,” Ryan said during an interview on Ross Kaminsky's talk radio show.

Health-care entitlements such as Medicare and Medicaid “are the big drivers of debt,” Ryan said, “so we spend more time on the health care entitlements, because that's really where the problem lies, fiscally speaking."

Ryan said he’s been speaking privately with President Trump, who is beginning to warm to the idea of slowing the spending growth in entitlements
.

But billionaires and investment banks needed tax cuts, right?
They will just take money from SS and never pay it back and it will go belly up but at least the rich got their tax breaks.

Not surprising. The Republicans love the whole "every man for himself" mindset promoted in various Ayn Rand dystopias. They firmly believe in the Just World Fallacy and lack empathy as well as common sense regarding what allows a civilization to be successful - and the true nature of a civilization can be judged by how they treat their most vulnerable. In right-wing land, that includes tossing them out on the streets and making them into second class citizens if they are of the "wrong" skin color, religion, or sexuality. It is very telling regarding what they want for America.

Too bad so many of their supporters don't have wit enough to realize that the rolling back of civil rights and economic protections and safety nets knows no bounds. It's not going to just hurt "those there brown people I don't like," but everyone but the elite. By the time they realize that, it will be too late, and honestly based on the staggering bitterness and spite shown by so many Trump supporters, I really think many of them would be fine living in crushing poverty provided some minority they hate has it worse then they do. Voting for Trump or supporting him is like shooting yourself in one foot with the hope that someday Trump shoots somebody you like less in both feet.
