Outrage as Philly pushes through ban on bulletproof glass in crime-plagued neighborhood shops | Fox News

Philadelphia is one step closer to getting rid of bulletproof glass in many of its small businesses as part of a larger effort to crack down on loitering, public urination and potential drug sales -- but the potential ban has triggered a backlash from shopkeepers.

The city's Public Health and Human Services Committee passed a bill Monday enabling Philadelphia's Department of Licenses and Inspections to regulate the bullet-resistant barricades that stand between customers and cash registers in many neighborhood corner stores, according to FOX29.
That's nearly as bad the calls to banning bullet proof vests...

Philly is not the place to ban bulletproof glass.

It should be obvious that there's a difference between banning and regulating.
What's the matter with you people? can't you read or do you deliberately distort?

It seems to me that a shop where the clerk is protected from freelance criminality is preferable to no shop at all.

Maybe the city should put up a bunch of Port-potties around town to take care of the excrement problem.

Will philly also call for cops to be prohibited from wearing bulletproof vests?

No more armored trucks to transport money?

How about metal detectors at entrances to government buildings?

my initial reaction was that this is really stupid..... but..... there is a bit more to it. I don't know what the truth is, but it seems the issue is, there are stores that are selling alcohol (even shots) but they have no seating. They are registered as either a convenience store, or a restaurant when really they are a walk up bar.

they are skirting the law. and that's putting drunks on the streets.

Now I think from the story I read, that was the view of someone who voted for this ban, and not an unbiased view of the reporter. So im not sure.

I do think they ought to better handle their business in Philly because if that's true, that's just crazy.

While bulletproof glass may be considered racist rest assured bullets are not.

I'll bet part of the reason for the removal of the glass is to force these shops to close as they make a neighborhood more difficult to gentrify. This may simply be a way to throw the bums and deviants out of this neighborhood or into a neighborhood scheduled to gentrification in a few years.
