She can volunteer her place on the team to an alternate athlete more eager to compete than gain exposure through virtual signals. She's an unreliable competitor anyway.

She probably never gets that opportunity as, from what I hear, she's a long shot at qualifying for the team anyway.

It's sad that these people haven't figured out the secret recipe that would resonate with the vast majority of people in this country:

I like to call it humble-protesting:

If she had just said "I love this country, I love the olympics and I would be honored to meet President Trump. I don't agree with his politics, but he is our president and I will respect that.", she would have gained respect not only from democrats (for disagreeing with Trump), but from conservatives too. Her message would have made more of an impact, and as such she lost an opportunity.
