I don't mean the pro-illegal, pro-Gay/Trans, BLM, baby-killing phony civil rights movement that the Left pushes, but the real Civil Rights Movement of the 1960s. LBJ was a known racist and opposed the Civil Rights Act. (Don't believe Common Core history, learn the facts for yourselves!) He also said something about having "those ******s voting Democrat for the next 200 years" or something like that.

He probably feared the power of the Civil Rights Movement and how preachers like Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. helped defeat the Democrat Party's front group, the Ku Klux Klan. So he passed that law to threatn them with the IRS. Without churches able to speak out, the New Left and their hippy and pro-choice pals were able to take over the country.

(The Left did something similar when their Klan hero Hugo Black, a Leftist Supreme Court Injustice, ruled in Engle vs Vitale, inventing the phony separation of church and state that has been devastating to our country and marked the beginning of the end of local control of education and the rise of federal control of it. They did this to attack the Catholic church, which the Klan hated, as they thought school prayer favored them too much and so they worked with Madyln Murray O'Hare to defeat school prayer.)

Thankfully, Trump wants to finally axe the Johnson Amendment. However, the possibility that it was actually passed to weaken their beloved Civil Rights Movement and that Trump is thus righting a wrong will, sadly, be lost on the liberal snowflakes.

Man that's some history book you use, is it your own. It would help if you could at least start a thread explaining that the Johnson Amendment prohibits tax exempt groups and charities such as religious groups from supporting or opposing candidates.

They should change the regulations to exclude any tax exempt organization from engaging in politics, they can do it on their own without the advantage of tax exemption. We have enough money in politics we don't need more, as for they rest of your post I hope venting helps your condition.

The Johnson Amendment needs to go.
It prohibits non-profits from endorsing candidates, and if there was EVER a law that was ignored it is this one. ACORN. Planned Parenthood. Black Lives Matter. National Rifle Association......... Does anyone think they are unbiased?!

And churches. In theory, preachers are not allowed to voice political opinion.

They ought to scrap the whole thing and quit pretending that all these organizations are unbiased.

The NRA is a 501, are you sure. Planned Parenthood does not engage in politics other than to fight to retain funding, they do not support political candidates.

We don't need to make it easier for charities (real charities) to engage in politics, we need to remove any organization from tax free status that does. We have enough money in politics we don't need Jewish, Muslim or Catholic super pacs.
