But misinformation and stereotypes rule the day. In a financial discussion I mentioned that I am financially independent, and a poster challenged that statement because I live in Mississippi! He honestly thought we all run around barefoot.

I happen to be very familiar with Butler County, Alabama, where the "UN Official" made his "inspection. It is poor, and that's a fact. Most people with moxie and motivation have left, and there will be more to follow. After a few years there is little reason to remain in these forgotten towns

Mississippi has about 8 counties in that category - population has been falling for 50 years or more, and almost no one moves into the Mississippi delta.
Still, those many towns are fascinating to me. Some of them, Like Money, MS, were once the scenes of outrageous acts of racism and violence.
Those towns and counties will never recover. Lost in history, I like to say. Like Timbuktu.

Less taxes, more prayer. Alabama's strategy for success could work for the whole nation!

Because Roy Moore isn't running in Mississippi.
The whole thing was a hit job on the GOP. Simple as that. They Don't care one whit about Alabama, Mississippi, or the people in them.

Reading comprehension? Do you understand that different states have extremely different welfare policies? If you don't, read your link, it has a comparison of California and Texas.

Here are the poverty rates for you:

Oh, so you want to be taxed more?

I can recommend some ways to accomplish that.

Well, you could live in NYC where you are either raped or robbed every day of the week while surrounded by rats and car jackers.

I lived in AL. There is a mix of both poor and wealthy. I was surprised by this. AL is the 6th poorest state in our country: Alabama is 6th poorest state in nation; poverty rate at 40 percent in some counties | AL.com

Interesting demographics per this from the article:

"The poverty rate for Hispanic or Latino Alabamians is highest, at nearly 34 percent, compared with 31 percent for blacks and 14 percent for whites."

Did they visit Flint, Gary, or Youngstown?

The UN has bulletproof vests. Strap them on and take a gander at violent poverty.
