Here we are, republicans and democrats alike, being beaten over the head with 'tax reform' that in reality does little except shift some tax burden from one pocket to another when the truth is, those with money are in the best position to keep it.

Instead of being 'outraged' (a term that gets a lot of use and abuse lately) over the bottom line on your personal tax form its time to hold state and federal governments responsible for their spending. It is simple finance and budgets 101. If you don't have the money to buy something, you don't.

Our government is always trying to figure out how to take more money from citizens instead of trying to figure out how to spend less.

Waste is rampart. A quick Google search brings up article after article on how the Federal government wastes billions every year.

Granted, opinions vary on what is waste and what is not. However, there are far too many for there not to be some real problems.

I guess the real question is, why is waste so obvious, year after year, organizations that point it out are prolific and yet, we sit here as citizens and cry over 'tax reform' when we should be focused on government spending?

This isn't tax reform or simplification, it is essentially taking out a loan on some trickle down fantasy that has been a failed policy. The Grover Nordquist congressmen have signed on to the no new taxes theme but in reality they cant come up with any spending cuts and are currently running massive deficits.

Trump is proposing a $700B military budget while proposing a tax cut makes absolutely no rational sense. Remember Reagan did the same, reduced taxes and increased defense spending, we haven't learned anything from our mistakes.

"that in reality does little except shift some tax burden from one pocket to another"

B.S.!

"those with money are in the best position to keep it."

Those that PAY the MOST should ALWAYS get the biggest cuts.

Now about waste.

Tom Coburn, when he was Senator, wrote a book every year about the wasteful gov't programs and it went NOWHERE.

I worked in both a very liberal agency and the DOD and I can give LOTS of cases of waste fraud and abuse.

It has been said EVERY SINGLE program needs to be evaluated and determined if it still is needed, is it meeting its original charter, is it cost effective etc. and in the end, is it worth borrowing money to keep it, which is what we are doing today.

Government can't police itself.

Is there a congressional committee to identify government waste and eliminate it ? If so, its failed.

All the congressional oversight committees we see so often but where is the one for waste ?

I agree there is little oversight.

I think the major issue is most people are one some kind of 'fixed' income. That is, you know how much money you have coming in and that is all.

Every financial planner I know will have you work within that income. If you are spending too much, a planner is not going to tell you to go out and get a higher paying job for more income. They will tell you to spend less. Live within your means. We all have to do this every day.

It is not too much to expect government to do the same.

The biggest waste is in Defense, but trumpers equate $$$ to Defense as some sort of patriotic act.

Billionaire CEO's have lower tax rates than upper middle class Americans.

But Trumps tax plan raises the after-tax income of middle class Americans by 1.5% and raises the after-tax income of the richest 0.1% of Americans by 14.2%.

We're not getting a real tax cut because services aren't being cut commensurately. We should make huge cuts to most areas of the federal government, including the military and security services.

Ever seen the military planes that are mothballed at/next to Davis Monthan Air Force Base?

The Air Force gets new planes that they do not want and do not need.
The Navy gets ships that they do not want and do not need.

What did president George Washington say about the "military industrial complex" ?

Probably the one bipartisan thing we can agree on. Government waste needs to be reduced. And we see a LOT of it.
