I get it and I don't.

Trump could have easily stated that North Korea and Isis are immediate security threats, and climate change will continue to be studied and analyzed. Of course NK and Isis are the real threats of today, but what's the point of removing it from "the list"?

it's not waving a gun at the US where's the threat?

Kind of feel like it is appropriate, the president's job is to protect the US from foreign powers, climate change would fall under jurisdiction of Congress. They are the ones who would approve treaties with other governments. President then carry it out

Of course. Just something he and his base can say he did, regardless of the reason, and regardless of it being a negative or positive.

I honestly think Trump's biggest flaw is communicating with everybody in the U.S. and not just to his followers. He continues his divide and conquer strategy. He doesn't just support GOP candidates, but he's taken his drain the swamp mentality to include all democrats.

Climate change is an issue, but a long term one. He won't even acknowledge that. It would appease so many if he kept climate change on his agenda, regardless of how low on his list it may be. Instead he strikes down opposition as if bi-partisanship never existed. Climate change isn't about politics, it's about protecting our world. Yes there are those who have pushed too hard for environmental change making it appear more important than poverty, war, terrorism, etc. It is important, but it should continue to be a long term project. His movement to take it off the "list" could hamper future funding for studies. A ripple effect could derail decades of work to try and find some answers.

And I'll throw in the conspiracy theory that he's playing for profit. Exxon, Mobil - climate change affects them and their bottom line. This is about business and not a balance of what matters in this world. As much of those on the right point to how far the left has pushed in this area, Trump is simply pulling a 180.

again... american president, not world president

trump's acts of tossing DACA/healthcare/etc back to congress, is really him giving up the overreach of the executive office. Those things should be decided on by congress for a permanent solution. Patchworks of executive orders and "continuing resolution budgets" by congress should not be how the country is ran

I dont' agree with some of what trump does, but I can support his following the powers of the executive office more strictly

Stupid move by Trump. His own military says that climate change is a growing threat. He should be listening to his generals. Ask the Navy commanders who run the base at Norfolk, which is under increasing stress due to rising sea levels.

then why aren't tornadoes/hurricanes/wild fires considered national security threats?

I realize he isn't, nor does there exist, a world president. For a long time the POTUS has been considered that top dog among his peers worldwide. Moves made by the U.S. definitely have cause/effect globally. Climate change IS a global issue, so any leader of any country standing up and saying it's not a threat (veiled with the words national security) doesn't understand global politics of which Trump is a part of. There is no need IMO to remove it and announce it. Just push it down the list.

Trump? Listen? When he does it's to the wrong person(s). Trump cannot balance short and long term issues.
