Default You know what I am sick of? Negative personal politics.

I am sick of the talk about politics being everywhere. Who slept with who, who is the racist, who lied.

Call me uptight but I don't want to hear sordid stories about how a married man visited a prostitute, I don't want to hear about how a man had a threesome with his chauffer and his wife, nor how another one and his wife both had affairs.

Our news and coverage of the political scene has gotten to the point if it were suggested as a script for a fictional show, the ratings people wouldn't allow it in primetime.

The political coverage reminds me of an x rated high school, back biting, click infested, circle jerk and I am sick and tired of it ALL.

Literally every talk show you watch has something about this MESS on. It has literally gotten to the point where I don't allow my daughter to be in the room when I watch alot of shows that used to be no problem letting her watch AND thank god for Tivo and fast forward.

Anybody else tired of the sordidness?

I was watching a popular daytime talk show when my daughter walked through at the same time they were discussing the Governer of New Jersey and his claimed threesome.

She just turned 11 and I was HOPING that she didn't hear it or would not ask me what a threesome was. Thankfully she didn't ask.

I understood that 'mudslinging' was part of American politics.
I mean in Holland demonizing your opponent, criticising the person instead of his political ideas, is frowned upon.

The last time this happened was with Pim Fortuijn who would’ve won the 2002 election with a so-called one-man party LPF (List Pim Fortuijn).
Unfortunately he was killed by an extremist when it was very likely that he would become the next PM.
Fortuijn’s style of debating was very in-your-face-confrontational, and his political ideas are more right than left but he was not an extremist (but he does indeed polarise, which is only natural when you debate). He became a symbol for 'new' politics (where the government becomes even more of a grass roots movement, but than more in the style of 'management by speech' and full accountability when no results were achieved) instead of the old politics (top-to-bottom leadership where you only loose a seat in the government when you truly fail beyond any repair).
But when he was killed Fortuijn’s political one-man party easily crumbled to dust.

I think the personal, especially sexual, proclivities of our "leaders" should not be fodder for the press. The US is the only country that seems to care about it. Europeans laughed about the Clinton/Lewinsky affair. Who cares. Two consenting adults are simply two consenting adults. Do you really want the press in your bedroom?

I don't care what people do in their private lives. I do care about their behavior and voting records.

It is my opinion that this type of mudslinging is petty and absurd. If you can't go after someone for their record, leave them alone. They're not hurting you with their private activities.

I don't enjoy hearing the sordid details of politicians' lives --nor anyone else's.

I do 'mind' when elected officials conduct themselves without maturity or integrity.

Shame on you
Fool me twice
Shame on me."

Well, after all, the media is a business. Whatever works, or does well for business, is reported. It seems, though, that everyone likes the "Jerry Springer" type of media reporting. Consumers eat it up.

We truly are a nation of sheep.

Speak for yourself, I don't enjoy it and I skip or turn the channel when they get going on this.

Politics reminds me of that joke, two people are walking in the woods and they see a bear. One person kneels down and starts tying their shoe. The other person says, "what are you doing, you can’t outrun a bear". The person punches the other person in the leg, gets up and says “yeah, but I can outrun you”.

That’s politics, it is no longer about fair competition to see who is most qualified but finding ways to cripple your opponent so you can win. It really is sad because most people blindly believe the negative information on the person they are not going for but don’t hold the same standard of truth when it comes to their candidate.
