Republicans have always had animus toward the United Nations. Before that they didn't like the League of Nations.

There were plenty of years in the past that we were arrears in our dues because Republicans wouldn't allocate the money. That the money was cut is less surprising than the excuse they used to cut it. The UN was never intended to be an extension of our foreign policy, it is a meeting of sovereign free nations, we can not expect to win every vote or be on the winning side every time. No nation can expect that.

Mature adults take their licks, learn from it and move on, children take their ball and go home in a huff.

For as long as I can remember republicans have hated the UN. I believe the republican corporate establishment fears the United States being closely involved with other countries in the UN.

The UN is made up of the worlds advanced industrialized countries, and these countries work together with the UN to lessen social problems throughout the world. And these countries have progressive tax systems, healthcare for everyone, they regulate corporations, and they believe in man made global warming (their policies are 100% the opposite of the republicans political agenda.)

Republicans like the Koch brothers, large corporations and corporate think tanks control the republican party. And these groups see countries in the UN involved in things like solving income equality, environmental regulations, corporate regulations and worker rights (and this sends fear throughout the corporate republican machine, fear that these policies could spread to America through UN involvement.)

I imagine 25-30 years ago some corporate think tank published a story negative towards the UN (to protect their corporation from a UN policy they did not like.) And then more think tanks started publishing anti-UN stories, and later this hatred of the UN spread to all branches of the republican party. Republicans attacking the UN would be similar to republicans attacking liberal states like California, because republicans do like those states high wages and corporate regulation policies.

Republicans have also learned when there is a government agency they don't like one of the best ways to weaken it is to cut its funding. Like GW Bush and Donald Trump cutting funding for the EPA funding and republicans cutting funding for the UN.

I am tired of the US lining the pockets of those corrupt cackling hens in the UN.

Defund the entire organization and throw those useless asses out of the US.

Good. We needed to renegotiate our international welfare program.

You are absolutely right! And honestly, the money has nothing to do with this. This is the United States exercising our right as a sovereign nation to convey our feelings about the recent vote at the UN.

As you can pretty plainly see, we ARE the UN. We contribute more than twice as much money to the UN as Japan, which is second on the list of contributors. 285 million dollars is nothing! So you are right, this does not come down to dollars and cents. This comes down to our leaders showing the rest of the world that we will not stand by while the rest of the world condemns us for doing what any sovereign nation has the right to do. We have the right to move our embassy to Jerusalem if that is what we see fit to do. We did not ask for the approval of the world, but there also did not need to be a smear vote held just to make the rest of the world happy. Our ambassador clearly told these worldly men and women that we would remember what happened that day at the UN. This move was simply saying "we mean what we say." If anything, this move makes us appear stronger! Because you see, this is the thing, we don't need the rest of the world's friendship. What we need is their respect. If they see we mean what we say, and we say what we mean, then there will never be any doubt in any nations mind that the US will handle it's business. I think this was the only move we could make. In the real world, if you don't keep your word, you are nothing. I think that carries over to pretty much all facets of life. This was no different, only this time it was a nation keeping it's word, and the world is watching and hearing our message.

How are you judging the usefulness of their "asses"?

Sphincter control.

Its time to pinch them off and wipe away support. Its time to tighten-up on the funds.

I'd like to see Trump take the necessary steps to move the UN Headquarters out of the US. Next step is to withdraw US membership. Moving them out altogether would be a step virtually unchangeable should a Dumbocrat reenter the role of US President. Havana or Caracas would be good candidate locations for them to relocate to. Or Mogadishu. See how their reps like living in those places and how much is accomplished while there.

And its odd so many equate diplomacy with giving the money of american citizens to foreign governments.
I would be fine if we pulled out of the UN and pulled all our troops home. Take that money and help Americans in need.
