I happen to believe nobody is smarter than anyone else in general. Yes there are outliers, but anyone could be an engineer. You just have to train yourself to think analytically and logically. Engineering programs aren't an easy feat as I am an engineer myself.
My undergraduate engineering program was literal hell. But once I got used to the expectations, the effort required to do semi-decent (I'm a B average student), etc.. then the rest becomes pretty easy and standard affair. I breezed through the MS program without even blinking but struggled through the undergrad program. I just attribute it to changing my work ethic and lining up to what the expectations are. It takes a lot of time, dedication, and natural curiosity for solving problems.
Anyone can do it, you just have to face up to reality. It is hard work, but not impossible. Those who don't want to change and/or dedicate more time will fail and drop out of the program.
I don't even remember probably 75% of the content inside all the courses I took. Though I do remember the general ideas in each course.
Take it for what it's worth. lol
