BTW, you didn't answer my question.
So the cops can simply come up to you when you’ve committed no crime and accost you in the land of the free? That’s what our founders intended?

And you’ve already defended the chokehold. Don’t back outta that now. Stick to it.

You're assuming that no one cares because he is black - would you be arguing and fighting for this man so much if he were white?

I'm very sorry that this happened over such a petty thing - but when are people going to take responsibility for their actions and wise up? White, black, yellow - it doesn't matter - he was warned about it before and still chose to do it.

He was being arrested for selling loose cigarettes. This was the 3rd time in that same year that he was caught doing that at the SAME SPOT.

If you watch the video, Eric was not complying with the officers. Also, let's remember that Eric is 6'3 and 350+lbs. It's not easy to handcuff someone that is resisting arrest so force has to be used.

The paramedics were somewhat sloppy in tending to Eric. They didn't provide oxygen to him and they should have prompt him up in a sitting position.

Also, i live in NYC. How exactly was this guy paying for all the expenses of his family just by selling loose cigs? I am familiar with buying loose cigs in a bodega or newsstand not by a random guy in the street. (Usually, that is for drugs)

You need to read more about the Eric case. There was a sting operation that was being done in the area. Eric was arrested twice in March and May. Also, there were local businesses that were complaining about him and others selling loose cigs.

Even after his death, the black market on loose cigs continued.

Seriously, what are the cops supposed to do if
the subject just plain doesn't wanna be arrested?
They can exert force or walk away. They ain't paid to walk away.
Petty criminal, imho his crime was equal to running an illegal lemonade stand. If NYC didn't have a sky high price on cigarettes this wouldn't have happened. I usually tend to side with the cops, but not in this case. They killed this man, he told them he couldn't breath.

Asking for only black reporters to inquire about Erica Garner is ridiculous. However, it is a private twitter page. The opinions of one person's twitter account do not represent the opinions of all African-Americans.

Much like the White Nationalist in Charlottesville who made racist posts on Facebook 48 hours before murdering somebody with his car. His Facebook postings make it clear that he is a racist, but his social media activity does not represent the opinions of all white people, only himself. Use that same logic and apply it to the Erica Garner Twitter post.

And someone just did an interview w/an NPR reporter this morning who isn't black so this whole argument is moot.

No. But when they are called and they encounter a person breaking the law,
they are expected to enforce the law, regardless of the wishes of the lawbreaker.
Regardless of the seriousness of the crime or if the "crime" should be
illegal in the first place, people who resist arrest usually do not do well.

You will have to show me where I defended the choke hold.

BTW, you still didn't answer my question.
Should petty criminals be able to simply "Just say no" to being arrested?

Of course, you haven't heard a peep from the MSM condemning/calling out this blatant racism.

The ironic thing is that people across all racial and political lines believe in the need for policing reform. But when you have some who consistently try to racialize matters, you will never have the unity that you need to truly bring about reform.
The white man invented asthma. That's why.
