Of course this election was all about race. trump made it into that and he won on that. Charlottesville after the election shows that the racists feel emboldened. It's very sad, but I think it is their last hurrah. Good riddance!

No one is "scared" of immigrants. Normal, people, however, recognize that immigrants take a share of things that belong to others, things created by others. And, at some point, since they get to vote, they'll have the numbers to vote themselves a 100% share of a country they didn't build.

Where do you get that this election was about race? If anyone was trying to pull in the races it was Hillary and it failed because no one wanted her.

I'm sick of hearing about race this and race that - those who focus on it are the problem as most of us care more about a person's character than their color.

Only George Wallace and Donald Trump were shameless enough to openly court them; usually it was left to local actors (and the likes of Fox News) to issue the dog whistles and code words that would summon this “deplorable” demographic to the polls. These voters have no need, indeed they have no patience, for the intellectual gloss provided by traditional conservative thinkers.

The problem for the G.O.P. has been that as its support among the broader population has waned, its primaries have become more and more dominated by this demographic. Trump, armed with a con artist’s willingness to lie openly and shamelessly, easily cashed in on the ignorance and gullibility of what is now the Republican base.

You seem to forget that the ancestors of those people tried to leave the union, but were forcefully brought back into the union.

I suspect James fancies himself to be a member of the elite.

He would be a Republican today. Don't try and pretend this isn't true because you know it is.

Democrats just keep Blacks on the Plantation by other means. Just check out Dem controlled cities like Detroit, Baltimore, Camden and tell me I'm wrong.

The rich and the poor are on the same side as always. It's equally hard to go after either half of the unholy alliance. I favor causing all illegals to leave the country by means including punishment of those who employ them. There are vanishingly few people who (1) oppose illegal immigration and (2) oppose "go[ing] after the business interests that employ them".

Look at the numbers. In multiracial societies, elections are always about race. The Democrats offered their voters a chance to plunder productive people. Trump offered a somewhat more robust defense of these people, which is why he won in a less-white country while McCain and Romney lost in a more-white country. The main aspect of politics in this country consists of Dems importing Democratic voters while whites shift to the GOP at a rate that approximately offsets the importation of ringers.
