This is THE craziest thread here on CD forum! The OP was very critical of stock numbers before Trump (they were all fake and made up) but stock market is like GOD for him now!! The way OP is keeping this thread alive makes me wonder if he is going to be rewarded by Trump or his allies for creating longest thread or being paid on weekly basis

Not sure it is right to compare the church/religion to the likes of what provides us with so much access to information these days, or maybe mine is a different perspective is all...

A religion has a particular agenda and narrative it wants to promote for obvious reasons, competing with other influences and agendas in whatever time or space in history we might pick, up to and including today. "Modern times," satellites, instant world-wide free communication as a whole has no such agenda or particular narrative to promote any one message. It's simply a much wider and diverse source of competing "voices" like we've never had at our disposal before.

It's the difference between any one voice no matter how powerful in the past or present with the myriad of voices we are now exposed to with the Internet, social media and all the rest included therein. We no longer have the one church or just a few news stations, or just Walter Cronkite. Now it's everything and anything from real news to fake news, reality as perceived in any way we like with easy access to all kinds of "proof" available to us online to justify just about any belief(s), notions and/or opinions.

Immediate access to all this information was supposed to help us be smarter and better informed, but as always there is the other side of that sword.

On a more personal note, I don't need Google or any of that, because I have two teenagers...

I posted my plan and put my money where my mouth is. It's on record in the thread.

I was looking for a point to buy into the DOW and my target was 24,000 plus and minus 500.

I pulled the first trigger, as I said, on the first buy, just below 24,500 and was hoping to pull the second today but so far it hasn't hit 24,000 and my first buy is in profit. Maybe tomorrow I'll get the chance to pull the trigger on the second buy..... tomorrow.

Anyone else making a profit ?

You CAN'T time the market, or if you think you can to make a profit, you most certainly won't over the long term, but continue to think what you like of course, regardless the facts, reason or logic to the contrary. You've proven yourself very consistent in that regard...

"Attempting to time the market could hurt you more than you think."

Interesting to consider the sorts of people/mentality who think differently and how that story always goes as well, like the person who claims to be such a good gambler at the casinos. What you hear about is the "wins." Don't tend to hear quite as much about the losses or the fact that more has been lost than won over time. Not that this sounds like any one person here or a Trump supporter in general, but just saying...

You are correct. Market timing is a sucker bet. Smart investors buy good companies and hold them for the long term. Example: Warren Buffet.

1:42 EST - The Dow is currently below where it closed on January 20, 2016.

Trump was right. We're tired of so much winning.

There are the talkers and there are the doer's......just saying …..
Buying at the lows and selling at the highs is the only really good advice that has consistently been a winning strategy.

"Stocks go south and President Donald Trump goes quiet."

Something oddly similar to the history of this thread, but if we want to make predictions...

Watch for what new villain Trump will begin diverting our attention toward and/or what positive news from anywhere Trump will unjustifiably take credit for, with all the support he needs from those who don't want to see it any other way. All to be sure we keep from focusing on what really matters, what's NOT getting done, what real leadership and progress for America might look like!
