Because racism is not something to be proud of, that's why.
Fix the illegal immigration problem - be my guest. But don't dare strut around being proud of "keeping THOSE people" out of the nation, because that means the real thing that's causing grief isn't "illegal immigration," but "brown people" or "people who are different." And we all know damn well that's the real motivator behind the right-wing outrage.
First it was illegal immigration, then it was introducing merit based immigration, now its ending chain migration. It’s never been about legality. They just want to stop immigration. This is only because the majority of immigrants are non-white. US immigration laws have ALWAYS been rooted in racism. There were no limits on immigration into a significant number of immigrants that are coming from Asia. As a matter fact, our first immigration law was called the Chinese Exclusion Act.
Far left nonsense again. The right wants to end the burden brought on by illegal and chain migration. They want to open up visas and permanent residency to plenty of high skilled "brown people" but your MSNBC doesn't ever mention that. White, black, brown, purple, or green doesn't make a difference to the overwhelming majority of the right. What does matter though is the need to provide welfare for someone that shouldn't be our problem. I'm pretty far left and even I can see that.
Is that the same Right that wants to eliminate H1B visas, or would that be a different right?
The Japanese are known, throughout Asia for their deep and abounding racism. They consider themselves something of a master race. Israel is an apartheid state. It’s no wonder the right-wingers admire those two nations so much.
Really? On what facts do you base this assertion that Japanese are 'known throughout Asia for their deep and abounding racism?'
And countries like China, South Korea, etc., do not have racism?
One of the most common stereotype about Japan espoused by many is that Japanese are the 'most racist' people on earth, with nothing to back up this broad assertion but a few examples they may have read about and the like.
OP: had such policies been in effect when your ancestors came to this nation, they would have been told to go home.
Always it is with the far-right: a nation's tolerance towards those who are different should extend just far enough to cover them and their ancestors, but not an inch further. Hypocrites.
The irony is I'd recommend the OP leave this nation and go to one of those "serious counties," but he probably couldn't get past their strict immigration policies. The irony.
The labor market was different in the past. There was a large demand for labor in factories. We don’t have that need any more. Poor countries need to reduce their birth rates instead of sending their surplus poor here to take away the few remaining jobs. We need to give those low skill jobs to Americans currently collecting welfare.

Absolutely. Conservatives, in their heart of hearts, want to lock the door to the U.S. and throw away the key.
.
if you're a lazy Americans which is what we have become, you can't compete with people coming into this country. That's why hispanics have taken over the building trades in America. lazy americans
To the knowledgeable they are still attacked because their policies are exclusionary (i.e. against non-Japanese and non Jews)
There are plenty of other countries that are open but still have strict requirements for immigrants which would make better examples - like Singapore.
Good post. Singapore is a good example of a multiracial multicultural country that works, albeit a very small nation. They have a strict immigration policy where you need to meet certain requirements and have certain skills and have a permanent job in singapore.Singapore has next to no unemployment Even some liberal counties in asia/pacific region like Australia have strict requirements for immigration, much stricter than the US
I asked for libs on here to name some countries, even ultra liberal ones , that have the same sort of immigration practices America has. No country in the world has as poor and broken immigration system as America, unless maybe they are war torn. We take in far far more immigrants every year than any other nation
It is not even close to the second place nation for numbers of people living in America who were not born here , 4 times larger than the closest nation. The Us/Mexico migration corridor is the worlds largest.

For America, it is simply about reforming immigration policy so that it suits the interests of its citizens, as any country's immigration policies should. Japan does a much better job of this and America should learn by its example.
