https://www.cnbc.com/2018/01/11/walm...-tax-bill.html

"Walmart's employees will soon reap the benefits of the recent tax law changes, as the company raises its starting wage, creates new benefits and distributes bonuses to eligible workers.

The big-box retailer announced Thursday it will be increasing its starting wage rate for hourly employees in the U.S. to $11, and is expanding maternity and parental leave benefits. Currently, Walmart's starting wage is $9 until workers complete a training program. Then, they receive $10."

This is great news for those who need great news most. That's a 10% pay increase. And there are child care benefits and bonuses involved, too.

The US has had a very repressive corporate tax system for years. It's choked the economy, preventing growth and making it very difficult for people to better themselves. It's wonderful that the shackles are finally loosening.

This sends a pretty clear signal to employees: vote for politics favorable to the company, and you’ll get a (small) kick-back.

So many states already have minimum wage laws near or above $11 that this is mostly PR by Walmart. Though for those Trumpland states without minimum wage laws it is good news.

It would be nice had Walmart given the raises and benefit increases out of their revenue. As it is, the new tax law is just putting it all on the national credit card. Keep that in mind as you read of these companies sharing the tax windfall. It is all borrowed money and YOU and your children will be paying it back someday in fewer government services or increased taxes.

Or vote for democrat socialism which redistributes company profits and get a small kick out the door.

And liberals will still argue in favor of communist economics.

From each according to their means to each according to their need.
Pure Commie trash economics.

Even if you like the tax plan, Trump had nothing to do with it. It was written by lobbyists and pushed by McConnell. Trump just signed what they stuck in front of him. Trump does deserve credit for the win that put a Republican in the White House who would do the bidding of Wall Street.

Is it more of a PR stunt? Perhaps.

For instance, in 2015:

Walmart raises pay well above minimum wage - Feb. 19, 2015

Briefly, in February 2015 Walmart announced raising the minimum wage to $9.00.

As for 2016, it was raised to $10.00

1 million Walmart workers get a raise on Saturday - Feb. 18, 2016

For 2017, raised to $11.00.

Yet, only the current raise is being praised, apparently.

That's a welcome message. A real change from just being kicked like a broke back dog.
