We've had in the recent past, presidents that just let the rest of the world walk all over us while at the same time taking billions of dollars in aid. Time to shut down the ATM machine to the world and tell them to go to hell if they don't like it. Many of these countries are s#$t holes that we are giving billions to in aid! where is that money going????
Well said and spot on.

According to liberals:

If we give foreign aid then we are sneering imperialist who are trying to take over the world.

If we dont give foreign aid then we are greedy capitalistic racists who hate everyone who isn't American.

Sound about right?

Democrats want no part of this.
Of course they don't, Democrat's have been running on change period! They have to have something to rebel against, right, wrong or indifferent, it doesnt matter.

The biggest influence on the voter is the information they receive and the extent of transparency where they can see with their own eyes, unfiltered.
If the voter is respected the information provided them is of high standards. The greatest transparency provided to them should be the goal. Not lip service but actual service that takes place in their view.

The back and forth on these two issues could go on with a volume of post and both parties, if it remained civil, would in the end, have to agree to disagree. A large vessel is best steered with small corrections at greater distance from its destination. Not a huge correction that may come to late to avoid the rocks.
The voter provides the balance, or should provide the proper balance in a perfect system, but our political system is far from perfect...

We have too much influence of special interest money affecting how our elected representatives are brokering the "will of the people."

Our biggest problem of all...

Heck! We don't have near enough Americans even aware about this problem either, that it even exists!

Though no doubt there is that ongoing tug-of-war going on with the popular vote that at least gives us some idea how SOME Americans feel, when you consider how little Americans actually follow or know about what is going on in Congress (the lack of transparency that even allows us to really know), add how little Americans actually know about most things politics or economics, domestic and/or foreign, then also consider how many Americans even vote! Let alone for either of the two candidates ultimately poised to win as POTUS, any thinking person really has to wonder what results we're actually getting from government compared to the true "will of the people."

Never mind all the rest of our political process that gets even less attention at the state and local levels.

I"ve always said that "agreeing to disagree" is much like kissing your sister. I know most people will quickly drive to that conclusion when their opinion has no legs to make any better argument, but what really matters is not whether we agree or disagree, but why. Who is right and who is wrong and why?

We can't all be right and no one tends to disagree about that!

However, there are losers as well as winners with globalization. The working poor have tended to be losers on our immigration policies (or should I say lack of) in the last 2 generations. Massive influx of unskilled and low skilled labor has driven down wages in whole industries. Construction is the obvious one. We are discussing immigration policies here. If we were discussing tax or fiscal or monetary policies some of your questions would be more pertinent to the debate.

One of the effects of globalization is a greater return on capital as capital can move more freely to wherever it gets the highest returns. Individuals who wish to grow wealth need to emulate the 1% to whatever extent they can. For most Americans this means putting 10% in your 401k and purchasing a home when you have a stable employment situation. It is amazing how many people at work put nothing in their 401K when my company matches 4.5 of the first 6%. Economic ignorance needs to be addressed in order to shrink the wealth gap.

The allusion to my wife was just a reminder the chief good is happiness, not money.
If with some understanding of economics you can make the sort of statement I have captured in bold above, then we've certainly got an understanding problem of a different sort...

Wish I had more time to better address these notions you want to put forth, because they really should not go without challenge, anymore than we should accept the notion that the Earth is flat, but I'm short of time for that now as I need to sign off to get onto other things. Suffice to say, you assume much about how the bottom 50 percent of Americans can "emulate" the likes of the top 1 percent. Sure seems to me that if economics is your field, statistics most certainly is not!

Maybe tomorrow...

Most alive today have never seen anything like a real leader in the White House. And those who make no attempt to escape the straight jacket of their strict PC programming react to one like the Wicked Witch of the West reacts to water. It is joyous to watch.

Is Trump perfect? Nope. He was simply the better choice, and the ONLY choice if you wanted to really send a message to the system.
