We're missing the forest for the trees here. What was offensive about Trump's remarks wasn't so much the specific word that he used, however beneath the dignity of the office of President it might have been.
It's the substance of what he said that's the problem -- that we should only accept immigrants from wealthy countries and not poor countries. That statement is completely antithetical to American values, and is something you'd expect to hear from politicians in an era that should've been well behind us by now.
