Not sure if this is a big deal or not. At first I thought it was significant but come to think of it, this is only just a one time deal for a women's hockey team. I doubt women's hockey is big in either Koreas. Even if this was a unification for something like a men's soccer team, maybe it still isn't a huge step towards peace. But I thought it was cool and worth sharing.

Women's hockey!!

It may be small but it still seems significant.

a small step in the right direction, but an important one in the long run. these athletes are going to have to communicate with each other, and the idea of freedom will be seen by the north korean athletes and perhaps they will start to talk to their families and it will hopefully spread across north korea, and even if it doesnt lead to reunification in the next 10-20 years, it will lead there inexorably, and that is a good thing.

things are not going to change overnight, change is always slow and halting. but it always happens.

Trump should capitalize on this and jump in head first and negotiate a peace agreement. We are at the point of mutually assured destruction between the US and NK, so there's no point in maintaining the DMZ and wartime stance. Trump would come out the other side golden if he can broker such an outcome.

i m not so sure of that. i think that the sanctions are really starting to hit the elite in NK, and kim needs to do something to ease those problems, this olive branch might be it.

not yet. i agree that a proper peace treaty would be a real feather in trumps cap, but we cant just jump in with both feet and try to force something, that would make for a bad deal, and trump isnt going to go for a bad deal. as for being at the point of MAD, i think you overestimate NKs capabilities. they have an estimated 80 nuclear weapons, only a small portion of which can be put on an ICBM, of which NK has few. and NKs targeting accuracy isnt on the par of china or russia.

reunification between the koreas would be a great thing, but likely not going to happen in the next 20 years, i may be wrong though we shall see.

I think he is going to try and "play nice" until the Olympics are over in February and then go back to the craziness.
