This episode of This American Life goes into detail about how uninformed many of Trump's statements were during his campaign (and in the early days of his presidency).
A major campaign promise is the premise of "revamping" the vetting process for incoming refugees. However, to do that, one would actually need to understand what vetting procedures are currently in place. Neither the Trump campaign, nor the Trump administration, bothered to ever check with anyone on what polices and procedures were even in place to begin with. How can you accurately assess what needs to be changed or revamped without first understanding what the current landscape is for a process?
Considering the military weaponry the Mexican cartels possess and their ability to construct tunnels, couldn't they blow access points through this wall or easily bypass it by burrowing? In a 6,400 mile wall all you need is a 2-foot wide hole or a 20-foot tunnel. Wouldn't the money be better spent on aerial surveillance, border agents, and cracking down on companies who hire undocumented immigrants?
If you do a Google 'Earth' flyover of the border there are many areas that have a natural physical barrier to any illegal crossing.
They don't teach geography and history in public schools any more. I remember when Jay Leno would go to college graduations and ask the students questions I knew the answers to in grade school.

I have to wonder how many have done the flyover of the border? It appears that there are areas that would be suicidal to attempt any crossing - too hot, too dry, too steep and no place to go for many, many miles.
That was the first thing I did when we first started this debate on a wall. I love the Google 'Earth' program. I can see elevations and I can measure distances. It put it all in perspective. Of course it is not the same as being on the ground!
