"non essential govt employee" is a pretty redundant term

I am about to wake my kids up early so I can avoid the crazy at the commissary because if no deal is reached they will be shutting it down.
Right. My son in law is deployed in the middle east at the moment. He, and his wife (my daughter) and their four children (my grandkids) will not be paid during this shutdown, while our elected officials continue to be paid while they wreak havoc.

I am sick to death of all this. If you're as sick as I am, start here:

And I think the same people who are raving here about how terrible it was to shut down the government this time were cheering it on in 2013.

Yup - it's the blame game and childish bickering.

Why do we put up with this.

I think it is absolutely SHAMELESS that our senators and congressmen continue to be paid, while our military personnel and their families go without paychecks. If you're as sick as I am of these career politicians wreaking havoc with our society while our military try their best to protect it, start here:

By the way, I'm always OK with a temporary government shutdown, as long as the military continue to get paid. And get this - THIS IS AN OPTION but our representatives in office have to vote to continue military pay. They have that option - but they didn't do it, did they? I didn't even hear a mention of it. Meanwhile, they keep getting paid via our tax dollars.

Disgusting.

The real issue here is that this president cannot be trusted to keep his word. He asked for a bipartisan bill that would pass in the Senate and he got exactly what he asked for. And then he changed his mind.

How do you govern with a president who doesn't follow through on his promises? What is the point of the two parties even trying to work together when the president will tank any agreements, even those he asked for, on a whim?

It's Trump who is the problem here. And the GOP has to know this, too, because he has put them in this untenable position where even they don't know what the hell he wants.

They'll do it. I work with many military, talking to them today. They aren't even as concerned as the C-D posters. They just got paid on the 15th. Next paycheck on the 1st. It will happen.

That had nothing what he wanted.....

Would you do that? Of course not....
