I guess the litmus test for Ohio councilman Dan Picard would be if his child, grandchild, wife or some other loved one overdose a third time. Would he stand next to them and tell paramedics or doctors to not treat, it's the third time they did this so we need to let them die. What do you think his decision would be?
I used to think, why not just let these people die. They choose to shoot themselves full of garbage and they know the risk that they might die so if they overdose then let them. It is crazy to think about the time and money it takes to save someone that is trying to kill themselves plus the first responders are being taken away from helping someone that might really need it.
Imagine if the ambulance crews is on one side of town saving someone that has just overdosed for the 3 time while your loved on on the other side of town is having a heart attack.
There is certainly an argument to be made about letting the addicts die but now I would like to see the drug dealers be thrown into prison for a long time. Why shouldn't dealers be tried for attempted murder?
If you are out there peddling hard drugs you go to prison for 10 years no exceptions no plea deal AND if you have an illegal gun with the drugs you get another 10 years.
The problem is the dealers supplying the users. If we come down hard on the dealers then they might actually think twice before becoming a dealer of death.

The War on Drugs DOESNOTWORK. How many more decades will it take for people to catch on to that?
I think arguing about what to do after people get addicted is not going to fix anything. These people don't really care about their lives at that point, anyway.
That's the core problem. We have so many lost people in our society.

Using drugs is a choice. I was orphaned by age 11 and was tormented in middle and high school, and my family shunned me because I left their cult church. I have never used illegal drugs, not one time. Sorry, but when bad people - like drug addicts - die it's a good thing for society.
