In fact it is banned in many conservative countries, but China did have a flourishing hip-hop culture in recent years. It's banned in a sudden.

-----------

China has banned hip-hop culture and actors with tattoos from appearing on television.

The country’s top media regulator — the State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television of the People’s Republic of China (SAPPRFT) — now “specifically requires that programs should not feature actors with tattoos [or depict] hip hop culture, sub-culture (non-mainstream culture) and dispirited culture (decadent culture),” Sina, a Chinese news outlet, reports.

Does China know this is racist?

Where does one find a safe space in Beijing?

I dislike post-80s hip hop but this is a really bad thing. Especially considering that it is part of a wave of general xenophobic, anti-American sentiment in China.

If they want to limit negative influences how about they stop honoring a pedophile and mass murderer and take that pedophile/mass murderer off their money?

Who is the pedophile you talk about?

Hip-hop is from America but China bans it because its Chinese versions became influential. Most people in China actually listen to Chinese hip-hop, which shares a lot of features with its origin.
