U.S. gov't to appeal ruling on classified material in AIPAC trial - Haaretz - Israel News
Does anyone remember the two AIPAC lobbyist who were caught passing classified information to the Israeli government? I suspect most haven't and maybe a handful have even heard it mention. Note the first line from the Israeli newspaper Haaretz:
Quote:
Friday afternoon is not the best time for major news developments, but in the case of the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) trial it seems to have become a habit.
For those who might have forgotten by now, the case is about two former AIPAC lobbyists, charged by the government with violating the Espionage Act, a legislation from the time of World War I, by revealing information to journalists and Israeli diplomats.

As in prior discussions concerning Israel I have mentioned that a great deal of discussion and debate takes place within Israel and the Israeli media that is usually pretty balanced and diverse. Yet here in the US, any debate or discussion of Israel is approached almost entirely from a most favorable position. This is an observable fact that is well documented.
Personally I don't think this case is going to go anywhere, especially once I read the list of people that were to be subpoenaed. They include, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, National Security Advisor Stephen Hadley, Deputy National Security Advisor Elliot Abrams, former deputy secretary of state Richard Armitage, the new Deputy at State William Burns, former deputy secretary of defense Paul Wolfowitz, former undersecretary of defense Douglas Feith and others.
Anyone who follows foreign affairs issues will take one look at that list of characters and know, this is huge and this isn't going anywhere because it is so huge.
I don't know about others but when our closest and most "special" ally in the entire world is repeatedly caught spying on us at the highest levels of government, it bothers me and I find it troubling that many people feel this type of behavior is acceptable or even understandable.
Would it be hard to predict what would happen if Iran, Venezuela or even France or Italy were caught doing this?
