We were there with the FIL for Honor Flight two years ago in the heat of the Summer. The Park Service Guides kept people off the walls and out of the pool. No one needed to be told twice. They were just informed it is a memorial to the dead and soldiers, not a cooling off pool. That feature is in the middle of the Mall.
Third-world cultures. What's next? Taking a dump in the corner and wiping with your empty hand?
Good thing US tourists are universally acknowledged for their capability for always being perfectly aligned with local culture and never, ever engaging in offensive behavior.
I doubt they meant any disrespect. That said, they should've probably known better. Also, not that the shaky, handheld camera view we had gave us a good look at the surrounding area, but I did not see any "no wading-no swimming" signs.
Kindly ask them to get out of the water and inform them that there is no swimming. No reason at all to remove them for trespassing.
I think part of what gets me in the first video, we don't know if they are or are not Americans so just to make an assumption they are not is wrong.
In the 2nd video it ticked me off hearing a woman say that they deserve to be able to cool off. Find a tree? Make sure you are carrying water. The amount of disrespect is just amazing anymore.
What makes them foreigners? As said before, who determined their citizenship? Yes they are being disrespectful and should be told to leave the pool but not the area. It is a public space after all. So I did not vote in the poll as there was no option for them getting out of the pool but not leaving the area.
No excuse for ignorance. When one visits a foreign country one needs to do their due diligence especially when it could be assumed they visited that memorial expressly because it was a war memorial.
Simply put; why visit a war memorial if you're not prepared to give it the kind of respect deemed normal by everyone. Who in their right mind would not lower their voices, restrain their children from running and acting boisterous.
Who among the civilized world would treat a "war memorial" in the same fashion they would a Disney attraction?

You will see many Americans acting like this all the time whether here or abroad. Look at those Americans who got arrested recently over in the Far East for parting on sacred ground.
