I would also say that Western style of thinking and government has created the largest wealth and most abundant economy and most equal societies every seen!!
Other parts of the world where also evolving, some doing OK, some collapsed, some never got beyond Feudal/royal families controlling everything, but the White, Western, Male dominated societies won out. Its just a fact!!
THAT, however does not mean its will always bee like that.
But just think of all the females who where never allowed to go to school to challenge their great minds, or minorities never allowed into the best schools because of their skin color. The world needs great, educated, tolerant minds, if we ever are going to get of this rock, or see to it that everybody can get a fair shot at life.
I truly understand why older white males ( I am one of them ) can become a bit anxious when they see minorities or women or other genders get equal rights as they, getting promoted before them or get benefits only reserved for them before going away.
I value our Western way of life and thinking above all other ways of governing, where millions of White Males, gave away freely their "rights" so that females and "colored" people could get an equal treatment!
There was of course struggles to get there, with a vocal minority that fought against it.. but most supported and accepted it.
OP is "Forgottenwoes", back trolling under another name. She just started an identical thread in the Parenting Forum to one she did under her previous name back in June 2016...guilt for the way she treated her widowed father after her mother died of breast cancer, shoplifting arrests, etc. Her posts under "Forgottenwoes" on the Political and Parenting forums have been removed.
She picked fights, taking a militant feminist stance. This new thread is typical and more of same is sure to follow.
I don't know that the example you provided feels accurate to me.
I look on it more like this: You have two children, one of whom is two years older than the other. And maybe for a long time, the older child got privileges that the younger one didn't--later bedtimes, more TV watching, such as that.
But then the children are, say, 15 and 13, and the parents don't see much need for 'different privileges' anymore. So now the kids get the same exact treatment--same bedtime, same access to TV, same access to computer, video games, hanging out with friends....
...and the 15 year old throws a fit because his two-year-younger brother is getting the same exact privileges as he is, but fails to realize that he himself *didn't lose any of his own privileges*. He might have to compromise on some stuff--for example, if his brother used to have to go to bed at 9, but he got to stay up until 10 and played video games for that hour his brother was in bed, but now his brother can also stay up til 10 and play video games, then they have to work out something that's fair (we'll say for the sake of arguments there's only one computer they can play games on, so they can't play together at the same time.) The 15 year old still gets to stay up til 10. That didn't change. He still has permission to play games. That didn't change. But now he has to work out something with a person who also has permission to play the games, and wants a turn to do so.

I believe this is much more accurate.
When we have to start sharing and competing for that which we have always owned and taken for granted we feel slighted at least. I don't know if oppressed is not too strong a word. Perhaps for some.
Do you feel it's accurate? I think so, a perfect example is all the men that complain about women being anything other than a 50s housewife.
I agree. It's the same thing with the evangelicals. What they call "persecution" in America is simply when they don't get to impose their religion on everyone whether they want it or not.

I am a member of few hunting forums.. the normal 40ish white conservative male.
And they are the worst whiners I have EVER seen.. complaining about liberals, women, gays, black, particularly blacks, everything is a whinefest.
Their white, male patriarchal is sacred, and is very scared of loosing their ancestral privileges.. anybody getting a heads up because of change in politics is terrible. Obama particular was awful, probably a commie muslim, sent to pervert the US.
Now, there are a good deal do not speak like it... but the vocal majority does!

Someone who is a lifelong Marxist and whose stated objection, nevermind the secret ones, is to "fundamentally transform the country" (into a socialist/marxist utopia filled with the Third World masses he was importing). Those are his own words and intention...nobody made that up just out of animus!

CHOICE is the freeing factor here.
We all want to be able to have the choice to have a stay at home parent or not. It works for some families and not for others.

Its just like when I'm driving around and see construction. Yesterday I rode BART into the city for a meeting. On the way I saw a lot of construction projects.. there were men working on the roofs of seven story buildings, operating a crane...at one point I saw a crew of men all working near the edge of a 60 foot roof, with an unprotected scaffold. Where are all the women?
They don't want the difficult and hazardous jobs. They're happy to let the men risk their lives at work, and as a result of that "choice" men experience 90-95% of on the job fatalities.
Why aren't more women dying on the job? We gotta even that out for equal treatment to be realized. More women must die on the job or things will not be fair!
It was a privilege for housewives in the 50s to be able to stay at home and for families to be able to live comfortably on a single income. I don’t feel oppressed in any way that mothers are in the workplace, but I do feel it is unfortunate that they have to work or feel they have to work to be “equal” to men.
Smart women realized they need to work to have their own money & security. No woman should ever rely on a man for money.
