Today, that means you must be insane and have a death wish. You go on the terrorist watch list.
No, seriously. It is long embedded in our historic pride in the experiment.
Does it have any meaning what so ever to you today, or do you have a hard time understanding the meaning.

To me, it means I would rather fight to be free than die a slave. Or a sheep. And I believe for most of us those words still ring true today. I think the main problem is many people seem more and more willing to give up their liberty in favor of feeling safe or appearing to be open-minded or PC if you will. But to those people I simply say this.

"Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety." ~Benjamin Franklin

When you say most do you realize that it was estimated at the time of the revolution only 30 percent actually wanted to break from England. I mention it because so many have the fantasy that our forefathers were so ideological and that somehow our morals have degraded over time.

To a tyrannical govt... patriotism IS terrorism.

Far too many people today have allowed themselves to be duped by this tyrannical govt though, its really pathetic and sad imo.

I have read extensively about that period of American History and yes, I did know there were far more people who would have preferred to avoid war with England. However, I also believe that the idea of true liberty and freedom has grown over the last few centuries. We, as a nation, have had a taste of real freedom and I believe a much larger percentage of Americans today would be ready to stand and fight to preserve it. The Americans of the 21st century are the "most" I was referring too.

It means there are still patriots willing to make sacrifices for freedom.

People whose true actual resistance serves as a bulwark against oppressive government power that operates unchecked.

It is the impetus behind acts of defiance and bravery.

And sometimes those acts and those people are unpopular and are demonized by the Powers That Be, because they represent a powerful rebuke, even though it comes from only one person, or a handful of them. In fact, when it comes from those solitary few, it is even more potent - that one person stands up against the might of the government.

The unpopular, but potent, include people whose acts earned them the label of "Criminal" or "murderer" or "terrorist" or "traitor".

You may know them by names like Kacyznski or McVeigh or Stack or Dorner.

Or you may know them by names like Snowden or Manning or Ellsworth.

Or by names like Chief Joseph, or John Bad Elk, or Bundy.

And there are many others whose names you will learn....because people refuse to learn.

I thought it was closer to 5%.
Firearms were expensive and not all had one.

Yeah but only about 15-20% were loyalist. So the majority either wanted to revolt or willing to accept it.

I can't speak for most American today but my morals haven't declined. I get a lot of mine from the same source as the patriots, English common law, the bible and reasoning.

We seem to have lost our freedom to the Internet.
Everyone has become a slave of their smart devices.

Where is the freedom?
