Maybe you don't know what the words minority and majority mean?

Because 60% of americans favor stricter gun laws.

Sure sounds like a slam dunk to me, just fix mental illness and leave the gun industry alone.

5 dead by gasoline and match.

Maybe we can stop global warming by selling people bumper stickers that say "stop global warming" and of course, banning abortion.

How does that translate to the Senate?

Not really. My interest is twofold. Well, maybe threefold.
Firstly, as a mechanical engineer, firearms are amazing. Forming a rifle or a pistol was one of the great challenges in the progression of manufacturing. Most of the mechanisms in your life derive from that technology dating back to the 14th Century.
Secondly, one of the most wonderful aspect of manufacturing comes from the mind of Eli Whitney in the concept of interchangeable parts. This was developed in the process of filling a contract with the military for a number of rifles. Before that individual crafters created the whole thing each by each. He assigned worker to make a particular part to be joined with the others. There would be no mass production without that.
Finally, shooting stuff is fun. My personal favorite target is old manufacturing catalogs.
Incidentally my personal arsenal at the moment is empty.

Those numbers are dwarfed by the number of victims of mass shootings in the U.S. just in the first six weeks of 2018 alone.

It is laughable when people bring up those situations in an attempt to claim those countries have worse violence than here in the good ole u.s.a. It doesn't even compare.

Translation: let's never talk about this, because we don't want to do anything about it. Know what is really callous? Using this argument to support more kids ending up in caskets. If you call talking about action "politicizing" it, then YES - let's "politicize" it.

2. We can't pass laws because no law would prevent every gun death.
Conservatives employ an unrealistic bar of 100% effectiveness in order to defer any change to the status quo. Since we can't prevent every vehicular death, should we eliminate all traffic laws?

3. The laws will only stop law-abiding citizens and not criminals.
Another variation of #2. Since not every burglar can be stopped by theft laws, should we strike those out as well?

4. If only everyone had a gun, then these attacks would have been stopped.

We already live in the most gun-saturated nation on planet Earth, and how safe are we? If more guns correlates to more safety, we should have the lowest incidents of mass attacks anywhere; we don't. This argument also ignores the reality that if every kid, cashier, bus driver, grocery shopper, etc. needs to go through the day ready to quick-draw like it's high noon, then we as a society have long lost our way in terms of being a safe, civilized culture.

5. The only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun...
Yes, don't deny that. We should have police, guards, etc. But we should also reduce the volume of bad guys with guns instead of taking it as a given. Other nations don't accept this as a given, and it shows in their statistics.

6. It's a mental health problem.
Sure, that's part of it. So if you feel that way, why is Trump's budget cutting mental healthcare funding, and why do conservatives in general endeavor to reduce citizens' access to healthcare?
And why do you strike down gun screening laws that endeavor to look at mental health of gun purchasers? You're making it HARDER for us to keep guns away from people with mental problems, not easier.

7. We feel so bad about what happened. Our thoughts and prayers...
No, you don't. **** your prayers. We don't need your prayers; we need action. You defend a status quo of unparalleled carnage in the modern world. You are complicit, you ****-eating liars.
Word.

Had it not been for Branson, there would potentially have been an outright ban on firearms all together. The NRA still endorses wholesome things you mentioned previously.

It is the media and group think anti gun rhetoric that hypes the NRA and it's members up as the likes of Taliban/ISIS. None of these scumbags were members of the NRA.
Nor were their actions condoned.

Where law makers went wrong, which defied all logic and common sense, was believing in making certain areas such as schools gun free zones.
That doesn't work and it's been proven to not work.

Repeal the federal law that makes it illegal to be within 1000 feet of a school I will volunteer Mondays leaving my employees with easy work to remain productive, and I will gladly stand post armed to guard the children inside any school.
Whether outdoors to check who's entering the school and wanding them for weapons, roof top as overwatch, inside concealed carry, outside patrolling the perimeter. Doesn't matter. I would even go as far to help train faculty members and support their right in keeping and bearing arms for lawful defense of children, and help train them for active shooter scenarios with simunition rounds.

Can coordinate it with help from local law enforcement too.

Whatever it would take to
Protect Life
Preserve Liberty
Ensure a future Pursuit of happiness of our youth.
This is pure unadulterated HOGWASH!

There was never going to be an all out ban on firearms. Of course, hindsight being 20/20, we'd all be much better off if they had all been banned since our country is now ruined as a result that they weren't!

The NRA is nothing but a pimp for the prostituting gun manufacturing and sales profiteers. It's not about freedom or the 2nd Amendment. It's all about the bottom line____PROFIT!

The NRA has done absolutely nothing to ensure the happiness of our youth and it will not!

The very same can be expected from the GOP and its leader, the current POTUS....

I like it. Also possibly "Falloning" and "Colberting" which is to spout out jokes about the President when you have had no good comedy writers available since Carson quit TV.
