The OP's link is a distortion of the truth. All students, male and female, are told they have to accept requests for a dance. It's not a "oh the poor girl" thing, in spite of what the OPs link wants to promote.

Kanesville Elementary School in Ogden, Utah, holds a sixth-grade dance on Valentine's Day each year. The dance is intended to promote inclusion and kindness, and students have traditionally been told by their teachers to say yes when a classmate asks them to dance.

All part of the left-wing, participation trophy mentality that permeates schools these days. We can't have students feel bad about themselves if someone turns them down if they are asked to dance now, can we? Don't fat, or ugly, or "nerdy" or handicapped people deserve to feel good about themselves too?

I would like to hear the opinion of students who went to this dance in the past.

Just because boys can't say no it doesn't make the policy any more appealing....
If for example there was a policy that women were allowed to be raped, would that be any more acceptable if men were also allowed to be raped?

Don't push this off on the left. When asked for a dance, a date, a relationship, sex, whatever, no one should ever be told that they cannot refuse, and if you can find a liberal who disagrees, I will personally make sure that you get the biggest, fattest participation trophy ever seen.

Glad we can agree on something. So if a "fugly" girl asks a boy to dance (or vice versa), or if a handicapped person, or a transvestite asks someone to dance, it is OK turn that person down. How about a gay person? A protected minority? A Muslim? Are we saying all people have the right to choose who they associate with?

You DO realize that this is just about a dance, right? Not rape or sex?

And don't pull the usual leftist bull-the mentality behind this is EXACTLY an offshoot of progressivism. The whole "make everyone feel good about themselves", participation trophy mentality. Nothing "right wing" about it.

Default But now students will be free to say no

According to this announcement, made before the dance, students didn't have to accept.

Monday night, community relations specialist Lane Findlay said the instructions for the dance have been changed.

"In the best interest of our students, we are re-examining the procedures surrounding these dances and will make any necessary changes to promote a positive environment where all students feel included and empowered in their choices," the statement said.

Square dancing solves that problem. Everyone dances in a group.

Wallflowers are shot on site - and removed from the dance.

So expecting all children (male and female) to dance with whoever asks them in order to promote "inclusion and kindness" is now religious fundamentalism and backwards culture? Sounds like progressivism what progressivism claims to me-everyone gets a trophy. I have to say you're right though-progressivism is a backwards culture.
