Firearms are here to stay. In the meantime, unarmed citizens are literally sitting ducks. Figure it out, people.

The issue isn't guns. It's the American culture. People are groomed from a young age that violence is the solution.

* Sensationalism of violence by video games and action movies, even cartoons

* The beloved cliched plotline of fictional superheroes who stop bad guys primarily by beating them to submission. (In my observation, most bad guys see themselves as the protagonist in their lives)

* The generally adverse relationship between the police and community widely accepted as a necessity.

* The legality of parents and teachers (in many states) beating children to force obedience

* Blind worship and glorification of all-crushing military dominance (as opposed to simply having appreciation for defence strictly as-needed).

* The justice system having more emphasis on vengeance and punishment than on rehabilitation.

* Protests being based on sheer LOUDNESS and intimidation rather than logic, creativity, and persistence.

* The extent to which aggressiveness and individualism is promoted in the US. People are taught growing up that you have to be tough and take no **** in order to survive.

Recent uber-PC snowflake culture is easy to laugh at, but if you look past the surface, the American culture of violence is so deeply dyed in, it influences even those snowflakes themselves. The US has some pretty damn militant promoters of "tolerance and peace".

In this particular case, the perp was 19. He is legally an adult. And there is no way he didn't know it was wrong, he just didn't care it was wrong. But it sounded like he had a disregard for social mores even before this.

Cars are more deadlier than firearms for all ages... especially children...

Yet the premise I've learned is not that of public safety or health...

It's simply. Gun control.

For if it were about public safety and health...
You'd all direct your efforts to that of fast food soda tobacco products alcohol private modes of transportation bodies of water so on so forth.

I don't understand your arguments....

But, by George you've got it! It is about sensible gun legislation and it is about public safety/safeguarding our children! It is about our youngest citizens being protected by legislators without self interest

And it is about time to make our voices louder and join in with those brave student survivors of last week's massacre. It is time to educate ourselves and vote for legislators who are willing to have the courage to do their job and pay attention to their constituents. Constituents who are the majority of us who cannot stand up to weapons of war in our schools and theaters and churches!

Right, he didn't know what is the right thing to do.

They sure were not screaming for gun control when shots broke out at Republicans at a congress baseball game practice.

Our airports and courthouses are secure, but most of our schools are not, that's messed up.

Yes, an adult who some insist on calling a child. An adult who was first enjoined from carrying a backpack at school and then expelled for behavior issues. An adult who had been investigated time and time again by various law enforcement agencies. An adult with a history of making threats.

An adult, just like the 18/19 year old gangbangers who people insist on referring to as children.
